"10/29/22: Final (#5) summit of Berthoud Pass to Hoosier Pass (Seg #1-Berthoud to Stanley). Started with snowshoes on mostly well broken trail soon after first significant high country snow event of the season. Switched to Trax for the short, steep climb up to Russel Peak. Followed a friendly lady’s fresh broken trail to the approach saddle of Peak 12507 but pretty easy fresh tracks over open country to Stanley. Beautiful sunny day with huge non-stop views and the rare perfectly calm day. (7.9/1200/1900)" — LoneWolf • Oct 29, 2022
"10/29/22: Berthoud Pass to Hoosier Pass (Seg 1). To Stanley Mtn and all points between. Perfect day above 12K with barely a whisper of wind. Snowshoes on the approach and Trax for the climb and beyond. With Tim Howard. (7.9/1200/1900)" — LoneWolf • Oct 29, 2022
"First time doing a real ascent in my new skins (more than a year old now...what took me so long??). Took High Lonesome up to lunch rock, then skied west on Primrose to the col and skinned up Village Way. Had to take my skis off at the top of Panoramic to get to the actual summit, winds were gusting well over 60 mph in my estimation. Skied down via Parry's Peak and Corona Way back to the van." — wazoheat • Apr 6, 2022
"What should have been a short, easy hike turned into a pretty scary situation here. As I left the car, visibility wasn’t really an issue, though the wind was picking up a bit. After reaching mines and starting to cross over towards Flora, the wind and snowdrifts started to get pretty intense. By the time I reached the false summit, I was in almost complete whiteout, with a visibilty of roughly 20 feet. Luckily I knew where I was heading and the hiking wasn’t technical, though miscropikes helped a great deal. Occasionally I post holed through the snowdrifts. As soon as I reached the summit I turned around, which is when conditions got even worse. At a few points I couldn’t see more than 10 feet in any direction, and the wind and snowdrifts were crippling to walk against. A few times the cover broke, and I was able to snap a few pics. Below 12,600’ the route became more clear, though the wind was still ferocious. I can’t believe I experienced this on Mt. Flora in October! It is good to be humbled once in a while.
