"In the clouds most of the day. Had a few moments where it cleared within seconds, then you'd turn around and the cloud was back. Enjoyed the climb up to Great Gable, but Base Brown was purely a 'ticking off' exercise, I doubt I'll ever top that one again.
The original plan was to tick off Kirk Fell and Fleetwith Pike nuttall summits as well. However, I had a friend with me who doesn't do this as much as me, so had to tone down the pace somewhat. We also started a bit later so was a race against the sunset.
I think I also descended Great Gable down the wrong slope, ending up on a seriously steep scree slope towards Beckhead Tarn. We persevered after descending too far down and tried to traverse more towards the slope we should have probably descended down. All ended ok in the end, but it was hardly a safe route - I'm not a fan of scree surfing on stupidly steep ground ;-)" — adventure-stricken • Nov 6, 2025
