"Had a planned route to tick off 9 wainwrights and 6 nuttalls. Wind speeds reached 90kmh+. Aborted Skiddaw Little Man, to bypass it and have a chance of 'trying' to summit Skiddaw and descend via Carlside (Left a car parked at Millbeck). In the end couldn't keep upright, was far too arduous and gusts were blowing us up to 3-4 metres off track. Also stones being blown up into face - so decided to go back down off Jenkin Hill. Can't say it was any easier and winds barely dropped right down to the 300m mark." — adventure-stricken • Apr 6, 2024

"Well we booked the hostel in Keswick for a trip to the lakes for some hiking. After a week of perfect conditions we set off and Storm Isha is announced. This necessitated a change of plan and we figured that Binsey was low enough it would be clear of ice and snow and might avoid the worst gusts. We walked up in sideways blasting rain but it was manageable until we got the cairn approx 5 m from the trig. At that point we were assaulted on all sides by extreme glae force winds. We had to duck behind the cairn for protection and plan a mad dash to grab onto the trig. Struggled to take a pic as couldn’t keep hold of phone it was so windy. W then had to plan a tactical retreat back to the cairn and then off the hill. Again as soon as we stepped away from the summit the weather became tolerable. I suspect we hold the record for fastest descent! " — charliegill • Jan 20, 2024
"I've climbed this with the youngest but not the oldest kid so having them both in same place meant we would have another go at this hill. Especially as the weather wasn't ideal. Saw a red squirrel where we parked and a huge stag on descent." — charliegill • Aug 22, 2023
"3rd time trying to climb Skiddaw and failing. Fatigued from Scafell Pike the day before and unable to get parking for the easiest routes decided to try a different route. Way too difficult in the end via Howgill Tongue and quite warm for November. With fresh legs and knees and an earlier start I would have done it fine." — adventure-stricken • Nov 13, 2022
