"32 yrs since long trail thru hike! Very different conditions compared to last time when we gunned it under an incoming thunderstorm. Explored new trails on this rhike. ran up CCC road to maple ridge, then hiked up to the forehead. Took detour to The Nose and then found an exciting descent on rock ledges back to the Long Trail. Ran from there to the summit, then decided to add on adams apple as a bonus peak. Aptly named profanity trail was a total ball buster. Finished off with a slow run down the classic sunset ridge. "Today I ventured to Vermont to climb Okemo Mountain, a fire tower summit I had yet to visit. Although the autumn colors had already passed their peak, the hike offered a mellow and scenic ascent. The trail began through open, recently logged forest, tracing a clear, bubbling brook before winding upward in a series of pleasant switchbacks through tall hardwoods. Higher up, the route followed a pine-covered ridge to the summit. While the top was busy with visitors who had driven up Mountain Road or taken the Sunburst Six ski lift, the fire tower provided a peaceful vantage point above the crowds. From there, I enjoyed sweeping views of Mount Snow, Stratton, Killington, Haystack, and Ascutney—each peak standing distinct against the autumn sky. After descending from the tower, I wandered over to the ski area at the South Face summit. It was fascinating to explore a landscape I’ve skied so many times before, now quiet and still in its off-season. With clear skies, crisp air, and comfortable temperatures, the day was nearly perfect for hiking. "A beautiful day for adventuring. Did an out and back on the Weatherfield Tr. The cascades are rather pathetic right now due to drought. I checked out the views from West Peak and the end of Hang Glider Tr. Both were quite nice. The summit is unexciting with its 2 radio towers but the nearby observation deck is where it is at.
