"Steve and I parked at the Shannon Falls lot. The trail at first was flat but suddenly rose steeply. It was tough going and very steep. We arrived at the summit at about 11 a.m It was a very hot day and very little breeze. The top was very exposed to the sun as well as to steep cliffs at the sides. We spent about 45 minutes relaxing. This was my second time climbing the chief. " — andrewbrintnell1 • Aug 23, 2025
"Fantastic scramble. Snow up to the col but dry rock most of the route. Rappeled on the way down for the sake of time, bring a 60M rope, a 30M was not long enough for the rappels and caused a bit of a sketchy situation. " — JackC • Jul 11, 2017
"After hitting the first peak I went back down to the fork up to 2 and 3. There is a ladder drilled in on the north side as a shortcut to 2 but I didn't see it until I was on the trail up. Much less busy on 2. " — dougbarton • Jun 2, 2017
"We intended to drive up to the 700m level via Mamquam River FSR and Indian River rd. but the branch off the latter which we wanted to take was closed because of the sea to sky gondola. So we hiked up from the Stawamus Chief parking lot to upper Shannon falls and up to the gondola trail system. We followed these to the sky pilot trail which took us into the Stadium glacier area to the North East of Sky pilot. By then we had run out of time and had to go back. This was a terrible route to take. Very indirect and long. " — PabloBruneau • Jul 6, 2016
"A very steep and technical trail, reminiscent of Yosemite's Half Dome, up one of the largest rocks on the continent, with incredible views on summit. Overall rating 9/10: amazing, especially when crowds are low, such as at sunrise, and should be a bucket-list climb for anyone in driving distance of the mountain" — MountainQuest • Jul 4, 2016
