"Despite the near-constant strong winds, great day exploring the (original) Sierra Nevada. With a few routefinding mistakes, we took an incredible northern route down the ventanas ramp, didn’t see a single person the entire time. Started to fade a bit on the final summit push but recovered and jogged down to the refugio. Took the standard road route back with the Paso de las guias shortcut — quite intense. Long out-of-body descent back down the slopes of Veleta to the car at Hoya de la Mora. A huge day and great loop!" — scott • Jun 23, 2022

"Again in Sierra Nevada, the highest peaks of the Iberian Peninsula. A fresh but sunny morning allows us to move forward towards the Veleta Peak. The air feels light, oxygen is lacking, but it is also very pure and that helps our lungs. There is a pleasant feeling of tranquility and silence in the environment. We pass near huge blocks of rock that have a silver glow under the sun's rays. Alpine sparrows welcome us near the summit in exchange for bread crumbs. The views are wonderful and we enjoyed a good time at the summit." — franciscobirruezo • Aug 16, 2019

"Also climbed Pico del Veleta (3396m), La Puerts (3147m) and Pico de Loma Pelada (3183m). For photos and more informations (in German) see: http://www.hikr.org/tour/post114611.html" — Sputnik • Oct 31, 2016

"The track starts in Hoya de La Mora. A path cross the old and the highest road in Europe. Closed to the traffic. There are not any indication to the Carihuela Refuge (3200) meters. From here you can go to Veleta Peak or Cerro de los Machos Peak. Is difficult by the altitude and climate in this season. Six hours go and back." — franciscobirruezo • Oct 11, 2015

"The track start in Hoya de La Mora and go to Carihuela Refuge near Veleta Peak. Altitude sickness forced two members of the team to return. For its proximity to the sea the atmospheric conditions can change quickly." — franciscobirruezo • Oct 11, 2015
