"Set off soon after dawn in perfect weather to beat the heat later. Start 0600 finish 0900 11.5km total 642m ascent. 3hrs total return, including 45 minutes lazing around around soaking up the view. Zigzagged up through an expensive luxury residential area, the quiet streets felt safe thanks to private security guards patrolling but make your own assessment. Plenty of hikers and morning trail runners up on the hill trails. Half way up I joined the usual trade route from the car park. Ladders, chains and steel staples neuter a few scrambly sections and the summit area has been paved over. Great views. In descent I branched off on the pleasant south nose alternate path which bypasses most of the ladders; longer by distance but quicker if there are the ladder queues. Once below the crags a traverse path went left to my ascent route, which I reversed back to my start point, jogging some of the way." — davidb • Dec 11, 2025
"It was Matt's birthday, so naturally we did one of the best hikes in the cape! We set off from silvermine and went via the Elephants Eye up to Constantiaberg and on to Constantia nek. " — Willowskid08 • Sep 9, 2024
"Muizenberg - A Tale of Three Caves
On Sunday, September 1st, ten of us set off on a calm spring morning from the parking lot near Muizenberg beach. We ascended the St James Buttress, enjoying some fun B-Grade scrambles, and passed through an unexpected cave to reach St-James Peak, our first summit of the day.
Next, we ventured to the back of the peak and discovered the impressive Muizenberg Cave, which was larger and more spectacular than anticipated, complete with fun tunnels and a gushing water source. After an early lunch, we set off to find Adullam Cave on the slopes of Lower Steenberg Peak. We found a cool cave on the left buttress of the peak, which you could walk through and emerge on the other side. However, we weren’t entirely convinced it was Adullam Cave, as it was about 150 meters left of our expected location.
From Lower Steenberg Peak, we continued to Muizenberg Peak, where we encountered a cold, strong southerly wind coming off the sea. Our final destination was a cave at Muizenberg Crag, but first, we had to navigate a 60-meter cliff. We set up an anchor and abseiled 5 meters over an overhang to a broad ledge, then set up another abseil point off a rock wit..." — CraigBurnsStellenbosch • Sep 1, 2024
"Peak 10/23 MCSA WW1 challenge. Perfect weather window between two fronts. Llandudno Ravine from Suikerbossie car park. Quick peak grab to Grootkop up-down with fairly decent path. Tranquility Cracks and down Kasteelpoort. Uber back to car. Probably wettest winter in Cape Peninsula in my life time. Water everywhere, paths turned into pools. Cool westerly. As always, amazing views down to the East and West side of the Peninsula to both oceans." — dawidburger • Aug 11, 2024
"Loop from Sandy Bay, along to the Bos400, up Duiker Ridge (B -Grade) and up to Karbonkelberg Peak.
We approached the peak from the most direct point from the old road by the ruins. Was a good challenge though dense bush but very fun terrain with all sorts of hidden features and a high variety of flora. " — CraigBurnsStellenbosch • Aug 3, 2024
