"I did this hike on 8/9, on a Friday afternoon. Arrived around 20 past 12 and there were a few other cars at the trailhead but still plenty of room to park. There’s no facilities so if you need snacks, water, or to use the restroom, make sure you make a stop before getting here. There’s a couple of spots where one could definitely take a wrong turn since the trial does not have much signage. It was relatively empty, more likely due to the fact it was a weekday. Came across five people in total, three on my way up and two on my way down. Had the summit completely to myself which was amazing. Was able to listen to the thunder from a storm in the distance. The bugs weren’t numerous but still enough to be annoying, even with bug spray on. On the way down, I heard a bear grunt but did not see it. There’s a lot of huckleberry along the trail so I imagine that this area is quite popular with bears. Definitely bring some trekking poles. The trail on the way down is very loose and you will slip. Try to use the edge of the trail when possible to make it a little easier. Awesome hike with some amazing views!" — IAmAStove • Aug 9, 2024
"Trip up to the Kacheese Ridge area to summit Thorp Mountain and Hard Know, both Home Court 100 Peaks. Added Hard Cheese and Not Knox along the way. Beautiful fall colors and perfect weather - awesome ridge hike with amazing views of so much of the Alpine Lakes Wilderness." — markhadland • Oct 8, 2020
"Day 2: Broke camp 8:30 AM headed west on the Bean Creek Trail bound for Earl Peak. Found a camp spot below the switchbacks up to the col. Stashed my gear and made it to the col by mid morning. Summited the un-named peak 5,100' that shares the col with Earl (SE of Earl).
Then headed westward down into the Standup creek basin following the Bean Creek Trail. Took the ridge-top cut off for the SW flank of Earl Peak. Summitted 7,063 Earl and headed east down the east ridge back to the col, effectively making the journey to Earl a non-technical loop hike.
Dropped back down to the camp spot in the Stafford drainage basin, set up and watched some flicks. Had wind gusts and intermittent rain but restful night, easy 8 hrs of sleep.

"Great hike with the kids into a blustery cloud. A few snow sections en route to the final climb but mostly snow-free last 1000 vert. Also took the spur to Thorp Lake and discovered a tent village. Once I got back had to look at Google Earth to see what the views would've been. Look for similar 3D map view in peakery soon!" — scott • Jun 27, 2020
"Beautiful views over Kachess Lake, Mt. Rainier, and the highest peaks of the Central Washington Cascades from this lofty lookout. Overall rating 7/10, great summit hike if in the area" — MountainQuest • Aug 8, 2019
