"Started our hike from Nuweberg up towards Landroskop via the Sphinx route. Once at the huts, we had a quick lunch and swapped our huge backpacks for day packs before taking on the trail towards Somerset-Sneeukop. Once through some extremely overgrown protea fields, we heading up a boulder field to the summit. Once at the top, it opened up for a small window to see the views. So glad we finally summited this peak. Headed back to the huts for a great evening with friends before heading back to Nuweberg the next morning." — Kortstok • Nov 13, 2021

"Was a beautifully calm day to hike Dutoits Peak with the MCSA!
Parked at the MCSA parking lot behind the farm gate (need to be an MCSA member to park here due to the farm owners, and even members have to pay R180 per car).
The route follows the farm barb wired fence (some bundu-bashing involved) up to the large pinnacle, from there a path becomes evident which traverses anti-clockwise around the pinnacle and up to the saddle between the pinnacle and the Dutoits Western ridgeline. From here up to the top of the ridgeline involves some B-grade scrambling with no exposure.
The path is well worn from the top of the ridge line along the approach but we did place extra kerns on the way up and on the way down.
Before the final approach there is a traverse along a roughly 2 to 3m wide ledge (in the pictures). I have heard that this traverse is tricky and becomes dangerous if recent snow has turned to ice, a anti-clockwise detour can then be used around the small peak and onwards to the main summit. "Perdekop VK attempt #3. Bettered my time by over a minute on a very misty and windy day. It opened up on the way to DuToitkop and the views were just spectacular. The clouds came rolling in on the final descent and run ended as it started, in very light drizzle." — Kortstok • Mar 14, 2021

"Finally summited Dutoitspiek after some endless and very dangerous staring at it while behind the wheel on the N1 ( which drove my wife nuts ). Really rewarding hike with views down both south and north side of the ridge and views at the top of Table Mountain, The Swartland, Cederberg peaks on the horizon all the way to the Robertson Mountain and the Breede Valley. Saved the legs a significant amount by driving up the road to the Trout Farm after obtaining permission to park at their gate and hike across their land, up the Brandpad to the Pinnacale. The scramble thereafter needs a bit of hands here and there but is not really dangerous if you take it slow - this is the most difficult part of the trip apart from a fairly wide but slightly nervy ledge that needs to be traversed about 45 min from the summit. There are cairns most of the way but some of them not so easy to see at first. On top of the ridge the route is fairly obvious for most of the way even thought the actual path often disappears. I used the downloaded GPX tracks on my Suunto all the way and esp if clouds/fog comes in, this could be a lifesaver. A few flats spots on the way up will make excellent bivvy spots for next..." — dawidburger • Feb 27, 2021

"What an epic adventure. We started the day off with a bit of nervous energy, hearing that the route is pretty tough. Duiwelskloof is one of the most beautiful locations I have visited. We got lost a few times, but after a it of searching found the next cairn. Absolutely stunning hike up. From the neck, it was pretty much a free for all trying to find the best route. No markers and no clear path. We summited Drakenstein Peak and starting to find our own route to Afrikaskop. This took a lot longer than expected and we ran out of water. Luckily found a stream in te nick of time. Decided not to summit Afrikaskop, which was a bummer, but a reason for a next outing. " — Kortstok • Feb 6, 2021
