"Unseasonably warm today out of the blue! After a couple of months of crampons and layers upon layers I was in a t-shirt for much of the climb here. Nice payoffs at the top after a steady but relatively gentle sustained climb. " — bluewarble • Feb 5, 2026
"Oseak Trail is the shortest route to the summit, steep, lots of stairs, well marked and maintained trail. Used a taxis to get to/from the trailhead, including an Uber taxi from Sokpo. Very humid, bugs not an issue. Hike is in the trees with few views. Trail open at 3AM in summer months. " — fredbrown585 • Aug 12, 2025
"Started at Seongpanak Trailhead in the dark and finished using the Gwaneumsa Trail. Rained on enroute to the summit. Hail and extreme wind/fog on the summit. Go early, the mountain was closed down at a checkpoint just below the summit temporarily due to extreme weather which I encountered on top. Since I had gone early and hike faster than most I was already on the summit when the mountain was closed.
Hiking to the summit requires a reservation, which was easy to obtain given it was mid-week. Made it the day before. The website shows you the number of slots available and is easy to make a reservation. Make sure you have your passport/ID when you check-in for the hike in addition to the reservation confirmation.
Had no issue using taxis to and from the mountain. Used Uber extensively in Korea to get a taxi. No need for Kakao Taxi app.
Trail is well marked and easy to follow." — fredbrown585 • Aug 6, 2025
"Fun hike overall with extended payoffs all along the grand ridge walk up to Wonhyosan. The tree-covered trek up to Bilobong is much less scenic but it's definitely a cool perch with nice views back towards Wonhyosan and beyond. I don't necessarily recommend my approach from 무지개 폭포, though, which involved a ton of trail-finding and backtracking; eventually made it work and was never in danger of truly losing the plot, but probably not an ideal solo route as the trail is semi-hypothetical for much of the first mile and involves a lot of negotiation with the river and slope to make it work. Definitely some more straightforward options if you approach from the east instead of the south. " — bluewarble • Jul 26, 2025
"Classic hike with the fam. Some say Baegundae is the most climbed mtn in the world but have heard that tossed around for several other peaks too (Fuji, Monadnock, ??). Hit a line of hikers headed up the cables and the summit quite crowded. Could well be the most climbed. Did it one way from west side down to the east. Tacked on a short but steep side peak Yeongbong on descent. " — scott • Apr 11, 2025
