"Hiked with Dean today. We left the Upper Giant parking area at 9:25 am @ 8° and under cold blue skies. Micro spikes door to door. Trail was frozen hard packed with 1" of fresh powder. Views from the Nubble were gorgeous! Took pics and enjoyed the summit, then returned to the car at 12:05. A short morning hike with big rewards!" — garyogden • Feb 5, 2025

"A nice easy mountain with many switchbacks to make it not seem so steep. Closer to the top there are some easy to moderate scrambles. Many false summits with great views but the actual summit doesn’t offer much. Nice enjoyable hike. " — jan2ny • Jul 2, 2024
"The weather turned out better than expected, so I decided to hike Rooster Comb. Turned it into a loop hike. Saw a deer and fawn on the ascent. Two different views on Rooster Comb. The view looking up the valley towards the High Peaks is the better of the two. Also get a cool view looking south at the notch that NY73 goes through past Giant!" — newenglandwarrior • Jun 14, 2024

"Amazing hike with @BaileyTheTravelingPup. Great day, sun and not overly hot. Black flies abound halfway up. Beautiful summit. No bugs, calm breeze and amazing views. Worth the trek up!" — Mousetek • May 26, 2024

"Started out around 07:30 from the Marcy Field parking area. Only one car in the lot near the opposite end, & I did not see a single person out when I was on trail. About 40 degrees at the start. The trail had fewer trail marker discs than is typical, but was very easy to follow.
The first portion of the hike is nearly a dirt road, turning left into the woods shortly after. From there it was a pleasant mostly squishy, obstacle-free path with slight gain.
I shed my fleece pretty quickly into the hike. After the first tiny stream crossing, the trail got rockier with more roots, and I surprised at how many offshoot herd paths existed around very benign trail features, such as a couple of steps up rocks, a small swath of black mud, and short runs of bare rock. The path was quite wide in some places, or had two or three little paths off the side to dodge the actual trail features.
Following the second small stream crossing, the trail turned into very loose soil with lots of small, loose rocks & exposed roots. It also headed uphill in a hurry! I took my time and picked my way upward.
Nearer the top, the trail underfoot became huge exposed slabs of stone. My Solomon’s never..." — kellieirene • Sep 27, 2023
