The HUGHS (Hills Under Graham Height in Scotland) are a new category of Scottish hills "with exceptional character." They are hills "with attitude, not altitude". This challenge, eventually in four parts, includes the 50 hills under 2000 ft situated in south and east Scotland on the mainland, as selected by Andrew Dempster for inclusion in his guidebook ‘The HUGHS’ Volume 1: The Mainland’. See book details at http://www.luath.co.uk/the-hughs-scotland-s-best-wee-hills-under-2-000ft.html. Maintained on peakery by member Mark Trengove.

"The walk was amazing. The first part, from the Bunnet Stane and Maiden's Bower to the peak was very steep. But it was done pretty quickly. The second part was all downhill towards Glen Vale Falls and John Knox's Pulpit all very colourful and mesmerising. It was a sunny day, so all my pictures are top notch. "After a few days in London we took a sleeper train to Edinburgh Scotland. We dropped our duffels at a bounce location then hit the Calton Hill area, walking the regents trail and visiting the various monuments. A little road walking brought us down to Holyrood Park. Hit Arthur’s Seat with all the crowds taking the spur path to St Anthony’s chapel on the way. We continued to roam up and down to get Crow Hill, Whinny Hill and finally Salisbury Crags. All easy walking in the “hills”. Finished our day roaming the streets and doing some shopping before picking up our duffels and finding our Air B&B." — Nimblefoot • Sep 21, 2023
"Day 2 of the West Highland Way hike with Nancy. Lots of people coming up from Balmaha on the trail. Sweeping views of Loch Lomond. Not tricky. It was a beautiful sunny day! Great stone steps heading down into town. " — lfrancois • Sep 6, 2023
"From the Bennachie Visitor Centre, using the green trail to the top of Mither Tap, then across the moor by the brown trail to the top of Oxen Craig. Descent south on a good path to join the Gordon Way east back to the visitor centre. With RP, and BC as far as Mither Tap. 11.3km, with 530m of ascent." — marktrengove2 • May 17, 2023
"Solo. From the layby immediately north of Glengoyne Distillery. Up the field immediately south of the distillery to join the path/track to Earl's Seat. Used the well trodden path that goes up the western slopes of Dumgoyne to the summit. Continued on path to go steeply down NE to join the main path/track to Earl's Seat which was followed over various bumps to the summit trig point. Back on the same path/track but used the path going round the north of Dumgoyne rather than going over the summit of this impressive little hill. A fine day with excellent views." — peter43 • Jul 29, 2022
