"Awesome day! Was able to stay at the el Tovar hotel. My wife and I started around 6:30am. It was really cold on the rim. We hiked down bright angel trail to 1.5 rest house then cut across the ridges to the battleship. There are many cairns all over the place. After some cross country we got to the battleship. I had read the route was class 3. I got off trail and unclimbed a chimney prob like 5.4 or something. My wife was smart enough not to follow me because up climbing and down climbing are different with no rope. I made another dumb decision and took my pack off thinking I was almost at the top. I tried to route find on the ledges. I found a spot others had climbed a short crack climb again, not class 3, I got up it and knew I was in trouble. Because I was not going to be able to down climb it. I wandered around to the wrong side tried to climb a even more exposed section and wasn’t comfortable with it. So I back tracked and thought I must be off trail. I found the correct trail class 3 and got to the summit. Then I had to go back around and up climb and down climb the first chimney and get my backpack where all our water was. Almost turned into a epic but a awesome climb.

"Did a long Redwall traverse around Newton Butte after Lyell. Was more tedious than expected. Took only 15 minutes from the base with one tricky class 3 wide crack. Complete TR: https://themtsarecalling.com/pattie/" — Christopher • Oct 7, 2021
"Exhausting 16 hour 24 mile day tagging Whites and Marsh. Started at 515 AM and reached Whites by 930. The day got way harder as we dropped through the Redwall to Boucher Creek, then traveled cross country to the extremely loose “class 4” route up Marsh. Only in the Grand Canyon does a class four route have fixed pitons.... Complete TR: https://themtsarecalling.com/whitesandmarsh/" — Christopher • Feb 24, 2020
"Didn’t think I had enough time after Comanche Point but got lucky on a cruiser game trail to get me to the rim above the Butte. Tricky class 3 down climbing to the notch led to some of the most class 3 I’ve done in the canyon. 6th summit of the butte since 2002. "Went up for the weekend to backpack, but found near every trail on the south rim full for Columbus Day weekend. Car camped out of the National Forest instead and went for Berry Butte as a day objective. The descent through the Kaibab was tedious and both Holly and Brian called it quits about halfway down. Never any real exposure or difficult climbing, just slow moving down loose and steep slopes. The summit band was a very fun crux- a 12' chimney with a tunnel finish at the top.
