"Hiked from the end of National Forest Service Road 246 up the ATV trail by England Spring to the Pinhoti Trail to the peak of Hurricane Mountain. Wish I had my trekking poles for the lowest and longest creek crossing, but I made it without falling." — davidensley • Mar 2, 2024
"Gina hiked short out-and-backs from both ends and provided shuttle back to Snake Creek Gap while the rest of us hiked the Pinhoti Trail from Snake Creek Gap Parking Lot to Pilcher's Pond Parking Lot with short light to moderate bushwhacks to two high points on the north end of Horn Mountain. Open Topo Map seems to indicate that the northernmost of these two is higher, but I could not prove it." — davidensley • Feb 29, 2024
"You meet the nicest people on the trail, and today we enjoyed a two-mile hike on Strawberry Mountain with Keith and Sheila. We drove Manning Mill Road to where the Pinhoti Trail turns off toward Strawberry Mountain, then we drove All Wheel Drive across two concrete fords on Forest Service Road 227 to where the Pinhoti Trail crosses. From there we hiked the Pinhoti Trail down to the partially overgrown overlook and took a group photo, then we hiked up to the high point of the Pinhoti Trail where the ladies stayed on trail while Keith and I followed an unmaintained trail to the ridge line. Keith returned to the Pinhoti Trail while I did a light to moderate bushwhack to the peak and back down to the Pinhoti Trail." — davidensley • Feb 3, 2024
"Hiked Pinhoti Trail from Forest Service Road 207A across Middle Mountain with light bushwhack near the trail to the high point, then back on trail to a longer medium bushwhack to Peak 1808 ft, then back on trail to the black triangle on some maps on the Hurricane Mountain ridge line, then back on the trail over Middle Mountain. I love a good ridge line hike with winter views on both sides, and Middle Mountain did not disappoint. I always thought it would be a cold day in Helen, Georgia when I got these three peaks, and it was. Temperature was in the teens F, but I was dressed for it and was not cold. Ironically, the only wind chill was on Hurricane Mountain, so I hurried back to Middle Mountain." — davidensley • Jan 20, 2024
