"Great hike and trail was in good shape and dry. Definitely needs more trail markets and pain near the top. I'd recommend poles if you have them...this one is killer on the knees

"When all else fails, regroup and replan! A chance to show off the beauty of the Adirondacks with friends from our local hiking group and what an adventure we had climbing a 3687ft w/2000ft of elevation gain, Hurricane Mountain in Keene N.Y. Lots of ice near the rocky summit made micro spikes a must as a few had to turn around from poor planning and safety concerns. Very windy at the top of the tower which made the hike even more epic, Great day with Darwin Smith and Heather McDiarmid doing what we love. Hike on!" — ramjet1963 • Apr 15, 2022

"We were glad to find the seasonal road open all the way to the trailhead. Tom and l left the trailhead at 8:50 under cloudy, breezy skies at 35 degrees. We decided to take the old, less used trail to the summit. 20 minutes into the hike we donned our snow shoes. Conditions on the old trail were perfect for snow shoes. Summited in 1 hr 30 mins. Snow was 3 feet deep just below the summit. Unfortunately there were no views from the tower do to blowing snow and low cloud cover. Temps in the 20s and wind chills in the single digits. A great hike regardless. Returned on the old trail in under 1 hour." — garyogden • Apr 10, 2022

"Gorgeous - three beaver ponds! Bottom trail is perfect, middle is mucky and top is snow and ice. Wonderful hike with fantastic views. Gusty at the top! (Cab on the fire tower was locked)." — stacydedring • Mar 27, 2022

"Nancy’s winter Fire Tower Challenge finish! Did with Stephanie and Sonja. A really sunny day with 7 degree temperatures. Awesome views! Easy up and down with snowshoes and spikes." — lfrancois • Jan 8, 2022
