The Argar Trail of the Southeast climbs from the village of Las Negras, passing between Cerro Negro on the right and Peak 133 on the left.
Cerro Negro is a volcanic lava flow with very dark rocks that give it its name.
It's quite steep, and I'm surprised by the number of small flowers growing among the rocks.
I find stone cairns that guide me toward the summit as I climb the western face.
Down below lies the small village, which seems like an oasis of orchards and palm trees nestled among whitewashed houses. Almost at the ridge, the sensation is of walking on slopes of lava that have just cooled. The rather uneven and steep terrain makes me extra careful; some rock formations resemble the faces of people and animals.
I then descend the same way to the track leading up to Peak 133, which is directly opposite and geologically very different
