"Came up with the Mrs. on Father’s Day to start our last few FT’s. We were prepared for the black flies to be terrible for this time of year, but a couple sprays of Off and we were good to go. Super easy and short hike. Trail in great shape today." — Henriettaheroes • Jun 15, 2025
"My second hike of the day. A long drive from Owls Head Mtn for a short hike. The hike got steeper near the end. The views from the firetower are nice, but because the tower was moved here, the location is not ideally suited for firetower use. Therefore, this was amongst the worst for views because there were few long distance views. " — newenglandwarrior • Sep 18, 2024
"Hiked with Cleveland today. Arrived at the hidden trailhead after a 3 hour drive. Met 8 or 10 hikers coming down on our way up, which left the fire tower all to us. The view from this tower was uninspiring from the open cabin. Bugs were minimal. Trail conditions were mostly dry. Returned to car and headed to Kelly's hunting cabin for dinner and relaxation." — garyogden • Jun 25, 2024
"This was my first peak in two years as I live with a chronic pain condition. It was a perfect challenge for me. I had pain, but was able to walk through it. The trail was dry and meandered through a ferny forest. I loved the board walks and the ladder on the trail. There is even a picnic pavilion near the top. Not much of a summit and a moderate view from the fire tower, but it was a sweet victory. " — LWT1966 • May 30, 2023
"A great hike with beautiful views! My family (wife, almost 8 and 5 year olds) made it to the top while enjoying the nice and easy hike (we have all climbed 11 of the Jr 29er mountains so far). At the top when the hike got interesting. We had checked the weather before we got to the mountain but obviously it was wrong. A heavy rain started as we were in the top of the fire tower and it lasted until we were in our car and on the way home. Thankfully the kids had good spirits (and dry close in the car). It was a memorizable experience for us all!" — jan2ny • Sep 27, 2022
"Absolutely magical trail. Eastern white pines and ferns, mushrooms and ladders. The summit isn't much, but the journey there is wonderful. The last of my fire tower hikes for the patch - 23/23!" — stacydedring • Aug 26, 2022
"This was a very easy, beautiful, quiet hike. There doesn’t seem to be a trail register. A sad memorial near the summit of a boy who fell from a cliff. Nicely maintained, well marked trail with short bridges and a picnic area near the summit. " — mariegrimmke • Jun 25, 2021
"Great day out on the trail with Matt Topgun Peacock after 5 weeks off from the high Peaks to finish the ADK Fire Tower Challenge in record style,, Three towers in one day!, Not much for views today with low clouds, Trails where snowless but wet and bits of muddy areas which made some of the rocks very slippery, so caution was taken. No bugs yet " — ramjet1963 • May 4, 2019
"Still had daylight left after the Tupper Lake Triad so I decided to venture to Wanakena and summit another firetower. Easy hike to the summit on the access roads. Great views to be had from the tower." — Right-On • May 19, 2016
"A long drive to a short hike, but all in all an interesting day. The tower is on the Wanakena Ranger School Campus & was
actually moved there from Tooley Pond Mt. The day was overcast so views from the tower were limited." — billsussdorff • Oct 21, 2015
