"A Lisa and Roger day finishing up on the Lake George 12ster with a loop hike of Cat and Thomas being the goal for the day, A cloudy and muggy day for our climb though the trails were rocky and wet to the summits from previous rains through the week, Amazing views from the west side of the lake looking towards the east, south and west of the summits made for a great day in the mountains doing what we love" — ramjet1963 • Jul 14, 2023

"I went to Thomas first, then took the yellow trail to Cat, then closed the loop back to the parking lot on the blue trail. What yourself coming down Thomas to Cat - leaves on top of pine needles on top of dry dirt makes for a slippery descent! Absolutely stunning hike and well maintained trail - just keep your eyes open for the markers and junctions and you'll be OK. My mileage said 8+" — stacydedring • Oct 23, 2022

"Decided to make this a loop hike starting at the Edgecomb Pond parking lot. I followed the red & blue
marked trails to the summit & then the red blazed trail down to complete the loop. Nice views of
the lake & surrounding mountains from the top. The total mileage for the loop was 4.3 miles." — billsussdorff • Jun 10, 2022

"Friend Jay, dog Black and l left the Edgecomb Pond trailhead at around 10:15 under partly cloudy skies, a light breeze @ +12 degrees. A group of 3 were just hitting the trail while we were gearing up. We passed them just shy of the summit. We took the red paint trail to the left about a 1/4 mile in. There are no signs or trail markers at the turn. Trail was frozen hard with a light snow cover. Summited around noon. Beautiful views to the north, east and south. Trail crampons or micro spikes are a must. Returned to car at 1:30. Great short hike of 3.5 miles." — garyogden • Feb 20, 2022

"We arrived at the The Valley Woods Road Parking area on a beautiful fall Saturday 10/10/20 and parked on the road as the lot was full. We started our hike and were soon very happy that we had our light hiking boots on. The trail is fairly wide and very rocky. We saw many people hiking with sneakers on and they seemed to be doing fine. Got to keep your eyes on the ground as there are many loose rocks on the trail. Some nice ponds to view on the way. Met lots of families and and friendly pets also. The view from the large summit is spectacular and well worth the hike. Round trip with lunch at the top was about 5 hours taking our time and enjoying the sites. We are seniors without any high peaks experience and I would classify the trail as moderate. We were happy to see the parking area at the end. I believe round trip was about 7 miles. Trail might be a little tough for young children but there is a shorter route from the Edgecomb Pond Parking area. I believe this route is about 4 miles round trip. " — BaggingBob • Oct 10, 2020

"building into spring hiking very slowly. Itwas a sunny pleasant day, around 60 degrees. As I was signing into the roster, I realized it would have been my grandmother's 100th birthday, which made the day feel special. There were lots of people on the trail, mostly non-hiker types. Well, good for them!
It became cool, windy and overcast on the summit, with just a few raindrops. As always, I kind of hated the walk out. God damn foot problems were flaring in the last mile. God damn wear and tear and getting old.. Ah well, keep moving or lay down and die I guess.
We grabbed a growler from Bolton Brewery on the way home. All in all, a good day. No snake sightings." — bethmorgan • Apr 19, 2020

"Great hike up the blue trail. Definitely recommend spikes and gaiters to keep the snow out of your boots. The views are breathtaking at the summit. No sign-in at the trailhead." — akarpinski • Jan 26, 2020

"Took my 3 and a half year old daughter out for her third hike in as many weeks. Figured we would try something a little longer and harder than her previous (Shelving Rock and Pilot Knob). Part way up we missed a junction and ended up on the old trail. When we got to the next junction I saw the trail we should have come up (the one I went up with the LGLC during the Hike-a-Thon). Looks like maybe they’re letting the old trails grow up before really establishing the newer ones. If it wasn’t for trail markers the trail would be hard to follow since it doesn’t look defined due to being a lesser used trail. Black flies were out in full force., not so much on the trail, but the top was a giant swarm. The big nets may look dumb, but it was a relief to not have any in my eyes, nose, ears, or mouth. Just an annoying buzz from whatever bugs swarmed our heads. A mile and a half further and steeper than any trail before and Lexi did great. " — cmarion1979 • May 22, 2019

"Cat Mountain + Thomas Mountain
December 23rd, 2018
Cat Mountain
9:30a We started at 8am this morning, I was hungry and tired when I woke up and did most of this hike with a headache. The plan is to do this as well as Thomas Mountain today. This will be my longest hike to date at over 6 miles. Francis and Eli walk extremely fast up the mountain and it is hard to keep up with them. I am also way to nice to ask them to slow down. This came back to bite me in the butt since just a few seconds ago I stopped sat down on a rock and began feeling like I was gonna puke. I tried stopping myself but when Francis and Eli asked if I was having a heart attack I had to talk and tell them that I felt like I was gonna puke. Sure enough the talking made me throw up the only two things I had in my stomach. A banana and water.
9:41a We just made it to the top. Francis and Eli are off taking pictures and pointing out mountains and I am still recovering. We took a non-supported train up so we actually ended up walking up the side of a cliff to get here. It was a nice view but at the same time, a very hard climb. The top is amazing and I can see the Pinnacle from here.

"Hiked with Allison, Cecelia and Wayne. There were some challenges, but worth it in the end. This is a nice easy hike. It would be great for kids. With little kids, just do Cat. I want to go back for peak foliage." — bethmorgan • Sep 8, 2018
