Route: North Face car park (busy!) - CMD - CMD arête - Ben Nevis (busy!) - Ledge Route down to the CIC hut - Allt a’ Mhuilinn path back
Weather: Perfect! Just right for a long day doing a classic Munro round with some grade 1 scrambling. Lazed around on the Ben’s summit for about 45min in warm sunshine plus took a dip in the Allt a’ Mhuilinn! Above the cloud for a bit while the overnight fog burnt off.

"Took the North Face to Carn Mor Dearg Arete traverse, and followed the tourist path down (which cut into bog land, with no trail...if you take this route, be sure to have GPS). It was the day before a storm came in, dry, chilly and cloudy. While had a lot of fun across the ridge traverse, would not want to be on it during a rain storm.
It's quite boggie at the base, going up and coming down. Definitely need water proof boots and gear. There are areas of scree fields, but the trail was pretty solid through these. While hiking up to both the Carn Mor Dearg peaks, the rocks are larger, but there are some loose ones (poles come in handy).
Again, GPS is highly recommended, as the trail is scant in various places. Would recommend poles and ability to scramble, if you're taking this route.
Also, if you bring rubbish up...take it back down. It was a bit disappointing to see the amount of garbage left at the top of this peak. Please pick up after yourself (carry in/carry out)." — colleenmarie512 • Sep 11, 2019
"During a weeks walking trip to Scotland, met up with friends from Fort William and went up Carn Mor Dearg. Started off a fine sunny day, some clouds rolled over whilst on the summit, but then disappeared. An excellent walk with good views of the NE face and ridges of Ben Nevis. I had done the full traverse of the 2 mountains several years earlier, but this time, because of time constraints, did not go onto the Ben." — davidlong • Jun 4, 2008
"With Jonathan Bellarby. From the car park at the head of Glen Nevis. We went up beside Allt Coirie Eoghainn, then crossed it and up the east ridge of Carn Dearg. Proceeded to the other Carn Dearg and went up to the summit of Ben Nevis. There were impressive views of cliffs. The entire ascent of Ben Nevis was done wearing shorts, boots and socks only! We went to the top of Observatory Ridge and along Carn Mor Dearg Arête to Carn Mor Dearg and Carn Mor Meadhonach. I nipped up Carn Beag Dearg before we went back to Carn Mor Dearg and down the east ridge. We went down beside Allt Coire Giubhsachen to Steall and the end of the road. It was a fine and warm day with a gentle breeze." — peter43 • Jul 12, 1983
"Staying at HF Guest House, Alltshellach. From Glen Nevis Youth Hostel. With HF A Party. Ascended the pony track to Lochan Meall an t-Suidhe and then followed the path to the CIC Hut in the glen of Allt a' Mhuilinn. We continued up the glen and then turned E for the steep ascent on to the ridge connecting Ben Nevis and Càrn Mòr Dearg. I followed the ridge to Càrn Mòr Dearg and back. Main party omitted this. We traversed the ridge to Ben Nevis – pleasant, rocky. Mist lifted on summit. We descended the pony track to the youth hostel." — peter43 • Sep 6, 1961
