"Saturday 4th November 2017. A hill-walk to the summit of Carn Faire nan Con 370m/237m, near Garve, Rosshire, North-Central Scotland. 5.6km with 315m of ascent. 1hrs 45mins.
Faced with a long drive home of over eight hours from where we had been staying, I was of two minds whether to fit a walk into what was already going to be a long and tiring day. However, I had a new set of wheels on the car and was rolling along well, so I let the weather decide for me. This hill looked to be not too committing in terms of time and was on my homeward route. It also looked to be in a good position for some fine farewell views. It did not disappoint.
The weather was conducive when I reached Garve - that is to say it was not raining or snowing. I parked the car in a small lay-by on the A 835 just south of Garve and gingerly made my way along the verge of the road as cars and lorries sped past me. After a few hundred metres of this unpleasantness I reached the start of the new access track to the pilons of the Beuly - Denny power-line. The track was unsightly in such a wilderness area, but at least it afforded me easy access to my hill.
