"8/29/21: Normally I would not even consider adding such a minor “summit” to Peakery. But despite most topo maps not even showing a blip, in person, Caribou is much more substantial than would be expected. Given the fact that it checks off three of the important criteria for inclusion, I decided that it is worthy. (1) As mentioned, Caribou is much more prominent on the ground than it would appear on topos. Some topos don’t even have the summit crossing over a contour. I estimated the Prominence to be as close to the next 40’ contour as possible. Visually, because of it’s geographical location it would appear to be well over 50’ from some angles. (2) “Caribou” is listed, surveyed, and marked on many maps at 12,310. (3) Caribou Point is obviously a very popular site. At the summit is a 10 ft man made stone monolith that can be seen for miles away. Due to its proximity out at the end of the most eastern ridge of Old Baldy, there are unobstructed views east, north, and south. A great destination in its self, it can be easily reached from either end of the Arapaho Glacier Trl. My route started at Rainbow Lakes to Old Baldy summit and Caribou Pt on the way back.
