"This was my first hike since Rainier, I think? It had certainly been a while. I had never been to this part of the North Rim before, and even just wearing a pack after over a month-long hiatus felt weird. Probably close to a 2-month hiatus? The Cape Final Trail was pretty well maintained and had beautiful wildflowers and amazing views close to the rim. The overlook itself was just glorious, and a great place to sit and enjoy a lunch. The early September day was still quite warm, and we took it slow and easy for both the elevation and the gain because both of us were out of hiking shape. I need to reestablish my raison d'être with hiking. With a lot of things, really. Regardless, a beautiful trail, not too crowded, and there's actually a reservation-based backcountry campsite right next to the end of the trail - maybe one day I'll stay there!
