Full day of hiking in Acadia. Local attempts at "hiking" definitely did not prepare me to do some real climbing. This hike was amazing in every way, even though my body was not physically prepared. It has been since last September when I attempted Katahdin with my son that my legs have done any real work. My knees were dying near the end. It really kicked the crap out of me. I was supposed to exit back over Kebo on the way out, but couldn't see myself doing it without being in some serious pain, so I navigated myself an easier way out that ended up taking me almost right back to my car. Kebo started the day, very easy and quick. Crossed over to Gorge Path, which was simply amazing. Got to the intersection above the gorge and decided to pull myself up over the boulders to summit Cadillac, something I've never done on foot. Got to the top and realized my legs were definitely feeling the rust. Went back down to the intersection and talked myself into summitting Dorr, even though I wasn't feeling it. After getting to the top of that, decided to go back down the North Ridge Trail, which probably ended up being harder than back down the gorge. The open ledges were slippery in many places, causing me to be really tentative, which was making it tougher on my knees. I stupidly had forgotten my trek poles in the car, which would have made my life a lot easier at that point. Got to the end of the North Ridge trail, and called an audible, taking the Hemlock Trail to Jessup Path and out. The path of least resistance. It was a beautiful day, and in spite of my struggles, I really enjoyed myself. It was weird and awesome to be in Acadia with so few people.
