Another magical day in the Trinity Alps. Solo. Cabin Peak is a remote peak in the Green Trinities. While the peak does get ascents, it is mostly by hunters and I got the first ascent on the Peakbagger app. Today was opening day for deer season but no hunters bothered me. One I ran into said I was only the third “hiker” he’s seen in 20 years. He gave me a bunch of food including some delicious venison salami. I saw a chonky black bear and several elk. A distant loud bugling through the fog was eerie; I forgot these huge ungulates live out here. Even with all the mystique, I felt way off today. I almost turned back several times but I brushed aside all of my irrational fears and pushed through the tough times.
