I hiked these hills quite a few times before the pandemic and used to swim at Playa del Arroz, but it had been a couple of years since I'd been back.
Today I saw a sign saying the beach was open to dogs, and numerous camper vans were in the area. They'd even organized a sort of competition where a group of dogs were vying for a soccer ball.
Disco music was blasting from another camper van; there was a lot of activity, children running around, someone having a barbecue, and
I, who had come looking for some peace and quiet, headed straight for the steep trail to leave all the noise behind.
Surprisingly, I didn't see anyone on the hill, and soon silence reigned. The day was cloudy, but I enjoyed the views while having lunch at the top. I could see Cabo Cope and Isla del Fraile.

I head west to avoid the campervan village and make my way towards Cabezo Gordo, which I honestly don't know how long it will survive the construction boom, since they've leveled the ground on the hillside next to the road.

However, on the other side of the hill, someone has converted old train carriages into rural accommodations. Two different ways of understanding progress.
