"This was my 80th peak off of the Sierra Club's HPS list. Hiking it sucked way more than any other peak I've climbed. The "trail," a long abandoned road, though it was only about six-tenths of a mile long, might as well have been sixteen miles. It was overgrown and had fallen trees blocking a lot of the way. So there was plenty of climbing up slope and down slope to get around these obstacles. Two or three of these times, I pushed uphill through bushes and under trees trying to find a cleaner route and got boxed in by the thorny bushes (buckthorn?). Though I carry hand pruners, it was always way, way too much thorn bush to clip through. (And I don’t want to clip a pathway for others to follow that goes nowhere.) I always ended up going back down to the “trail” to continue. What made this hike suck were the thorny bushes that were along the “trail” and the thorny bushes that were mostly prevalent at the top. At the top, I must have pushed through 100 SOLID yards of this 3-5 foot tall thorn bush to get to the open area of the peak. I had trouble seeing over the bushes to find the best way up. Thank goodness for the occasional hanging faded & shredded orange tape that I saw ..." — thesearcherextraordinaire • Sep 21, 2012
