"Final peak on a crazy weather day on Mount Desert Island. Bushwacked up from the carriage road. Easy going to a viewlless hoghpoint. Found a few cairns near the top indicating that at some point there was a now abandoned trail" — goshen-bagger • Nov 11, 2025
"Maine has some respectable mountains. Brewer Mountain is not one of them. Even by the modest standards of my native Pennsylvania, Brewer is just a hill with some rocky upland meadows. At 444 feet above sea level, it might not seem like much. But your starting place here at Acadia National Park is pretty much sea level, so it’s all gains. You can find solitude in our beautiful national parks, but you have to work for it. You have to reach for lesser known (even trackless) spots like Brewer Mountain. This is a total bushwhack; there’s no trail. And there’s not much in the way of views either. But it’s still beautiful. And when you consider the crowds on nearby Cadillac Mountain, for example, you have a choice to make: stunning views or solitude. I’m gonna try to get both in this trip to Acadia National Park." — briansnyder • Oct 6, 2024
