"Awesome hike up the MacIntyre Range. Arrived at Heart Lake at 6:15 to get a spot. Heard it filled up about a half hour later. Easy first mile, then pretty rocky up to Algonquin. Great views of Wright, the Marcy Group, the Great Range, Santanoni Range, and Seward Range from Algonquin. Pretty cool views across to Mt. Colden too. Fun hike down to Iroquois, seemed pretty easy but with one tough section near its summit. Boundary is just a small bump, but it is still in the alpine zone. Iroquois provides more great views, including a better perspective of Lake Colden and the Flowed Lands, Wallface Mt.'s cliff, MacNaughton Mt., Lost Pond Peak, and the Street Range. You can also see Mt. Adams, the McKenzie Range and Lake Placid, and also Mt. Jo and Mt. Van Hoevenberg, with Heart Lake below. The alpine zone was stunning today, with the grasses turning orange for the fall. A bit of a haul to get back over Algonquin, then headed down. I tagged Wright on the way down, which had a nice trail on open slab to the peak. Wright didn't have quite as great of views, as half of them were blocked by Algonquin towering above it, but it was closer to Big Slide Mt., Pitchoff Mt., and the Cascade Range, so..." — elimihuta • Sep 20, 2025
"Another huge day after huge day with nearly 5k vert. Can't keep up with nutrition, rest and hydration out here in the backcountry.
The climb up to Algonquin was near 2,500' up a rocky raging creek bed with no switchbacks - absolute nut buster but the views from above treeline made it worth it. Ate a celebratory Snickers then downclimbed nearly 700' to the base of Wright and climbed that. Downclimbed again off of Wright and then had to climb Algonquin once again to get back over to Boundary and Iroquois. Legend has it that Boundary Peak was the 'boundary' between the Algonquin and Iroquois tribes.
As I was coming down, accidentally ran into the Colden Lake Caretaker's property but turned around as to not disturb their privacy there. Took off most of my sweaty, smelly clothes and showered in a waterfall to get some life back in me.
One more night in the ADK, then back to civilization! Managed 10/46 peaks in 3 days. I'll be back for the other 36 NY!

"logged in at trailhead at the Loj at 6:20am. Summited Algonquin at 10:15am. Clear day, views of Colden and Marcy. Stopped for lunch. Descended Algonquin south bound, making sure to head right, to summit Boundary Peak at 11:15am. From Boundary traveled through a tree-lined col to Iroquois Peak. Summited Iroquois around 12 noon. Turned back from there, to head back the Alqonquin trail to Wright Peak. I did not attempt to summit Wright. From the trail split at Wright, descended back down to the Van Hoevenberg trail. Reached the Loj at 6pm" — catearonson • Sep 23, 2023
"Our first ADK peaks! It was a foggy day. Temperature was perfect although a little windy on the summits. Some of the slides were difficult and we didn’t know what to expect. It had rained the days previous so there was a constant stream running down the slide going up Wright and Algonquin " — Anurseandapainter • Jun 21, 2023
"Moderate to difficult climb in great weather. Algonquin easily the most difficult with multiple steep slides and a few false summits. Boundary and Iroquois are moderate via the herd trail, the toughest part being re-summiting Algo. Wright peak was moderate as it is very steep at the top. Great 360 views from all peaks. Finished in 4 hours 52 minutes. Recommend taking your time as it can be exhausting." — markfilliter • May 29, 2022
"Not too technical of a hike, but very long. The hardest part was the way down the Algonquin Trail, as it is very steep and rocky. These summits are some of the best in the region, and it's really cool to hit 4 in a row. Just be prepared for the distance, this hike took us nearly all day." — ThermarestCompressiblePillow • Aug 7, 2021
"One of the busiest days in the High Peaks on record - hundreds of people on the trails from the Loj. Parking at Adirondack Loj full; parking >2 miles from trailhead. Hiked straight up to Algonquin, over Boundary Peak to Iroquois, then back over Algonquin and down+up to Wright. Beautiful day for a hike; peak foliage and high winds on the summits. "Loop hike out of the ADK Loj through Avalanche pass and back via the Algonquin trail tagging the last three peaks of Tom’s 46r quest. On top of Iroquois the low cloud bank cleared giving us great views which we enjoyed for the rest of the day. There was some wInd, quite gusty at times, giving Tom and Kathryn a good taste of mountain weather and a new perspective of extreme conditions. At least half the folks attempting Wright failed, got turned back at tree line, do to the strong gusts. Donated an Ex-Officio sun shirt to Iroquois when the main compartment of my pack got unzipped and it blew out in the ~40 mph gusts. " — Nimblefoot • Sep 7, 2020
"Hike with Meenu and Mike, total time of 10 hrs 5 minutes and 11.22 miles. We stayed the night before in Lake Placid and it was so nice not to do the 2 am drive. We started the hike at 6 am from Adirondack Loj. The trail seemed to start going up right away for this one. It seemed to take a while to get to the junction to go to Wright. It took about 2 ½ hours to get from the trailhead to the summit of Wright and the view up there was amazing on this beautiful day. It was a warm one so we were definitely sweating, but the breeze felt so good at the top. There was a steward up there and he told us some interesting things and answered some questions. We ate some snacks and rested then headed back down to the junction and over to Algonquin. This was a tough but interesting climb. A few boulders to take on. The last part to the summit seemed to go on and on – it had looked so close from Wright! Another just fabulous view on this 2nd highest peak, and I was now oriented to where Colden and Marcy were so I could easily identify them. There was another steward up here and we asked about whether we wanted to do the longer loop trail or go to Iroquois and come back the same way, over Algonquin..." — kvander • Jul 10, 2020
"Halloween themed hike with my hubby Dave. Full trip included Algonquin, Boundary, Iroquois, and Wright Peak. The morning was pretty socked in but we were lucky to get a view on each peak during our return trip :)" — pandyabear • Oct 26, 2019
