Down Doddick Fell Ridge, up Halls Fell Ridge.
Down Blease Fell, up Gatehill Ridge.
Over the top, down Scales Fell and back to the bar in Mungrisdale via Souther Fell." — johnandsue4fun • Aug 11, 2024
"Our very first Wainwright before we even knew what a Wainwright was. 14th highest peak at 804m We were staying in the area and decided to go for a walk and thought Blencathra seemed like a good choice. We were treated with some spectacular views, it was all worth the sore legs the next day. Blenny has since given us the Wainwright bug. " — Nicolefrances • Nov 3, 2022
"Started from Scales Farm in mist, ascended via Mousthwaite Comb, then up Scales Fell to the summit of Blencathra, Hallsfell top. On the ascent the cloud and mist rolled away to reveal a superb vista. It was so good and surprisingly warm for December, that we stayed on the summit ridges & plateau for some time and returned by the same route." — davidlong • Dec 17, 2021
"From the (free) car park above the Blencathra Centre at NY 30269 25647, to the summit of Blencathra by the west ridge, passing over Knowe Crags 805m/14m and Gategill Fell Top 851m/18m. In mist most of the way, with no views, despite the warm weather. I then took a descending traverse to Mungrisdale Common, finding the 'summit' cairn on its flat boggy plateau. Then descended to Sinen Gill to join the track down the Glenderaterra valley from Skiddaw House, and so back to the car. The southerly wind blew cloud over Blencathra nearly all the day, but the sun burnt through as I reached the Common. Solo. " — marktrengove2 • Aug 26, 2019
"Returned to Blencathra for a circular walk of the main summits on the East of Blencathra. Set off from Scales Farm, on a mix of cloud & sunny day. walk up to Scales Fell, then on up to Doddick Fell. We continued up to Blencathra Hallsfell top with good views all around, then walked N across the saddle to Saddleback, then onto the summit of Atkinson Pike, then descended via Foule Crag ridge and Blue screes to Glendermackin col. Here we turned SE to return to our outward route and descend to Scales farm" — davidlong • Jun 12, 2018

"Up Scale Fell from the East, taking in Doddick Fell to Hallsfell Top. Took a detour North to Atkinson Pike, then back onto the ridge westwards on to Gategill Fell top and Blease Fell. Returned to Scale eastwards along path that hugs the bttom of the mountain. Note that crossing the last gill requires some scrambling that is technically more difficult than that faced elsewhere on this particular walk if you've avoided the various ridges known for it like Hallsfell ridge and Sharp Edge." — vygodski • Nov 5, 2016
"A fine dry sunny day. Started from Scales farm, went up Mousethwaite Comb ad on to Scales Tarn. After a short break, we went up onto Sharp Edge, a very narrow ridge. Here a young woman became crag fast, but after some assistance from others on the ridge, she was able to make her way slowly up the ridge. fter the long delay, we had lunch near the little monument, then walked onto the summit at Hallsfell top." — davidlong • Sep 30, 2011
"Started walk from near Scales farm. Up by Mousthwaite Comb, to Scales Tarn, then up Sharp Edge to the summit ridge. Then along the ridge and up onto the summit of Blencathra, Hallsfell Top, where the summit trig point is now only a circle in the ground. Return down by going SE, over Doddick Fell and Scales Fell, then make a short detour onto Souther Fell, before droppingb back into Mousthwaite Comb and down" — davidlong • Apr 19, 2011
"Ascent from Scales via Sharp Edge, then down by Foule Crag to the col, and south-east up to the summit of Bannerdale Crags. Then a traverse on the lip of Bannerdale and up to the summit of Bowscale Fell. We returned to the Bannerdale col, and up again by Foule Crag and on to the summit of Blencathra. Descent to Scales via Halls Fell to Gategill and east back to Scales again. With IB and others. Records of hike now lost." — marktrengove2 • Mar 31, 2000
