"1st time checking out the River Mountain Trail out of Boulder City. That view from the top ... imo is better than Hummel Peak, Frenchman and many others. Incredible 360 view of Lake Mead, Boulder City, Henderson, The Strip, Mt. Charleston & Red Rock Canyon.
Took a detour scramble down to the rock formations overlooking the trail (SE of summit) to observe a family of Bighorns (see photo).
Ran down the switchbacks on the decent ;)

"5.8.2020, Red Mtn & Bench Overlook with My Family and my kids BFF’s Family. 2.5 miles, 600’ gain at sunset. We invited them along on our hike. They have never been here so they loved the beauty of the area.

"4.13.2020. Scamper with Charlie Dog to the Bench Overlook & Red Mtn. 2.7 miles, 700’ gain. Terrific winds. Beautiful sunset. Went to the Hillbilly space ship but too much equipment to get to the true summit. " — paula.raimondi • Apr 13, 2020

"3.7.2020~Bench Overlook in the River Mtns the hard way. 5.5 miles, 1,400’ gain via the East Face w/ the 2 Jimmys. I introduced my Son to his 1st mountaineer route today and he took on the challenge like a pro. I was also lucky enough to run into @kasiecanepa and her pal along the way. I got to run and chat with them for a mile or so. The weather is sublime as we approach end of Winter and the arrival of Spring. Winds and Wildflowers were the theme on this glorious Morning trek.

"9.21.19. CCW Loop to the Bench Overlook via the East Face Mountaineer Route w @kasiecanepa Thank you for the invite. Love you times a million! 5.3 miles, 1,400’ gain. 1st workout post r2r2r on Tuesday (super unbelievable that that is my reality now!)...I’ve had major brain fog and my body was so sore. Today felt good. My knee had some pain when I ran downhill on the trails but I’m probably not fully recovered from the 11,000’ of Downhills in the Grand Canyon." — paula.raimondi • Sep 21, 2019

"3.17.19....Quail Trail Loop at a Snails pace w/Jimmy. 7.5 miles, 1,700’ gain, 2:15hr. 2 Peaks (Red & Black Overlook) I felt terrible on this outing but I muscled through it. Thought I was going to puke on the climb up the mountain. I was due for a bad workout. They’ve all been too good. Should have taken the day off. Haha. Beautiful out! From the Red Summit we watched a downhill mountain bike event. Looked like a suicidal adrenaline junkie sport...." — paula.raimondi • Mar 17, 2019

"Heh - flying by night, inasmuch as zero photos of the hike! I'm leaving to go backpack the Grand Canyon later today, and I hadn't practiced at all with a fully loaded backpack. It's my first time ever backpacking, so I needed to make sure that things were at least mostly okay before I hit the road. Ken and I did Black Mountain Overlook and Red Mountain to finish off my Las Vegas Local list. We would have done Black Mountain itself, but with me all tippy the way that a backpack gets you, we elected to hold off until later (aka when I'm only wearing a daypack). It's a nice trail system, so it'll be no problem to come back later. I didn't take a single photo - apparently how you get me to stop taking photos is put 40+ lbs on my back (not counting the camera- that's off my hips in a separate bag!). "3.5.19... XL Quail Trail Double Summit Loop. Black Mtn Overlook & Red Mtn Summit. Road & Mountaineer Speedwork. 8 miles, 1,700’ gain, 1:55hr effort w/paved surface, bouldering, scrambling, class 2 East Face Ridge Surfing, peakbagging and a sprint finish. Had a stand off with a Ram on the trail but he let me by. He had a family nearby....Too tired for a faux flag today. Warm and sweaty then cold at the top from the wind and being sweat soaked. "Happy March!....3.1.19. This warm weather has me happy and gitty. I had fresh & strong pony legs today. 7.3 miles, 1,700’ gain, 1:40hr. Quail Trail Double Summit Mountaineer/running hybrid loop route to Black Mtn Overlook & Red Mountain via the east face of the River Mountains." — paula.raimondi • Mar 1, 2019

"Black Mountain Overlook is approximately a mile from the summit of Red Mountain (give or take). On top are interpretive displays and a bench. Each are looking out towards Black Mountain (which is the next summit over). There is no established trail toward Black Mountain, but it is still reachable with what looks like a not too difficult cross country scramble. I didn't find out first hand, because I was limited to peak bagging in the morning only, so time was running out. Had great city views of Vegas from the summit, despite being about 30 miles away. I returned along the River Mountain Trail to conclude the visit." — MikeTeeples • Apr 19, 2018
