I walked about four miles to the trailhead from my house and took the 404 North Loop trail up and down Black Mountain. I didn’t encounter anyone else on that route, but saw plenty of people using the main 404 trail that I thought I was on. The ascent took a lot out of me, but the descent was actually worse since I was exhausted and had to be very careful on the steep rocks coming down. There are plenty of opportunities to slip and end up in the hospital. Views were nice, and I even saw a mouse at the summit, so it was enjoyable. Unfortunately, I lost signal at one point coming down and have a gap in my GPS track.
