"Been a while but back out again. Starting at Holming Beam car park and following the track north then taking the grass track through the prison fields, Black Dunghill sits boringly ahead. A hill with no features, but greats views, is a means to an end to take the old peat cutters track over to Clay Tor. North up over Cocks Hill to White Barrow and then picking up the Lych Way heading back east towards Conies Down before heading due south from the path back to the car. 9.3km. Sunny. Solo. "My Bombardier Leadership course was carried out in Plymouth and around Dartmoor. I also spent a few weeks on Military excercise in and around the Moors. Okehampton was our basecamp, along with many other bivy areas around DTA (Dartmoor Training Area) spent many hours, both day and night, tabbing around Dartmoor in the cold and wet......it was ALWAYS cold and wet !!.
A beautiful area though, one day, I'd love to go back under my own guidance, and appreciate the moors in my own time." — HikingViking • Apr 2, 1997
