We started our walk from Whicham Church on a bright sunny day. Once we were above 400m a v strong cold wind was blowing from the sea, which meant extra layers. South Top is a minor summit 200m S of the summit of Black Combe, separated by a small depression and v small tarn. The summit has a number of cairns and enjoys good seascape and Furness peninsula and Cumbrian coast views, but the views to many of the Lake District hills are hindered by the slightly higher main peak of Black Combe. We walked over South summit going to and from Black Combe and Stoupdale Head.
