"First elevation in a couple of months but body is reacting at acceptable levels. Speed up still at a good pace.
Can’t believe it is snowing on the middle of June. Summer please turn up!" — oregon-mt-goat • Jun 19, 2023

"My first time hiking up from the lower trailhead. 3400' of elevation gain in about 5 miles makes this a really nice training hike. Crazy, swirling clouds above the summit. Always a favorite." — beaucheminjess • Dec 31, 2019

"A short but very scenic hike up this beautiful iconic Bend peak, with views of the bigger Cascade volcanoes and down into Bend. Overall rating 7/10, one of the best summit views you'll get from a trail this easy just about anywhere" — MountainQuest • Jul 15, 2018

"Third trainer for Kilimanjaro in February (spots available - hit me on the twit) Hiked in the rain turning to snow about a 1000' ft from the top. High winds and blowing snow made the summit a miserable place, and of course 30 minutes into my descent the clouds parted and bathed the summit in sunshine." — oregon-mt-goat • Oct 29, 2016

"Beautiful Spring day. Beautiful spiraling hike to the summit of a wonderfully located butte. From the top of the butte there are amazing 360 degree views of the cascades and surrounding communities. On this particular day there were approx 20 other parties, hiking up or down, that we encountered. The trail is quite narrow from top to bottom so good hiker etiquette is in order! This is an intermediate climb. My 6 & 8 year old kids did this hike with little trouble. We stopped 4 times on the way up for snacks and/or water and an equal amount on the way down. I carried a 15 lb pack up the mountain with the load lightening as we went due to the fact that I was carrying the food and water! " — Icculus • Apr 18, 2015

"My girlfriend and I while on a Road trip to Canada did several hikes along the way. The Black Butte in Oregon was one of them. We started from the trail head half way up the mountain at 5:30 pm. It was still quite warm and toward the beginning of our climb I decided to strip down and do this hike completely naked. What a great choice that was. A very beautiful hike and my 1st time laying eyes on the Cascade mountains. The views on the way up were incredible of Mt. Jefferson, the 3 sisters, and broken top. When we reached the summit we checked out the historic fire outlooks and cabin. We enjoyed the incredible views and took our summit pictures. There was a strong wind up top that was quite impressive. This was peak #37 of my 100 in 2014 Goal. After climbing back down we went to the local Deshutes Brewery in Bend, Oregon where I tried Black Butte Porter for the 1st time and ended up having a few to celebrate our climb. I even bought the Black Butte Porter shirt with a picture of the Black Butte on it. This was one of my favorite all time climbs. Just to see the Cascades for the 1st time blew me away." — 1-with-Nature • Jun 2, 2014
