"I started this adventure real late at 10 Am, and then headed up the Icehouse Canyon trail past waterfalls, nice shaded areas, and cabins. Then past the footbridge I turned onto a large trail, crossed the creek (DONT FOLLOW THE SPRAY PAINTED ARROWS) and then headed along the creek for 100 yards until I headed out of the trees when I saw the mouth of Falling Rock Canyon. Then I headed up the barrow canyon and rencountered my first waterfall, which was an easy scramble around to avoid. Then I had some more class 2 scrabling with no exposure up the canyon, and a lot of walking on rocks and debris. Then eventually I reached the Sugarloaf scree firld, which look me 1/2 an hour to climb ip as it was so steep, and I had to avoid dislodging rocks that would hit my sister below. Thats also why I recommended a helmet for this route. Then I headed up to Sugarloaf Saddle, where I turned right to head up to Sugarloaf, a quite nice peak with some nice views and a small registry tin, and some views through the pines alog the trail. Then I went down and then headed up to Ontario Peak, which provided some nice views and some off trails ections requiring navigation. There were some trail remnants and..." — lc444 • Aug 8, 2025
"7/19/25 Summit Ontario peak then came down to Big Horn Peak! Unfortunately I missed the trail somehow coming down so ended up backtracked my steps and came back to the same way I came in! 😬 Made it a longer hike than anticipated! " — diane • Jul 19, 2025
"Hiked to Icehouse Saddle to start out. Then took the Ontario Peak Trail to a saddle below Bighorn Peak. From there, I took the summit trail to Bighorn Peak. Along the way, I diverted off the path to summit Peak 8210. After visiting both peaks, I formed a loop back down to Icehouse Saddle, followed by a long rocky walk back to the parking lot." — MikeTeeples • Jul 6, 2025
"Peaks #15 and 16 of round two of the 2020 SoCal Six (18) Pack of Peaks Challenge. Three peaks peaks today. Headed up Icehouse Canyon to Cucamonga Peak. Then back down to Cucamonga Saddle for the short steep climb up to Bighorn Peak, then all the way across the ridgeline to Ontario Peak. After Ontario Peak it was an exciting descent down Falling Rock Canyon and back to the trailhead." — Philip-Yoho • Aug 15, 2020
"After a 3rd consecutive extremely noisy night at Manker Flats Campground (I think there was a rave that was still going when we left camp around 230am), we were utterly exhausted, but still wanted to do this hike. We started (slowly) a little after 3am from Icehouse Canyon and reached the saddle just before sunrise. After a short rest, we continued on to Ontario Peak, where there were already a few people enjoying the excellent view. We turned back after a small meal and then took the faint path up to Bighorn Peak. From there, instead of taking the trail back, we descended the loose slope directly back down to Icehouse Saddle, then followed the trail back down to the car. It was nice to finally get to see the beauty of this canyon during daylight hours. As tired as we were, we still had to drive back to Vegas that afternoon. Ugghhh. " — Kevin • Jul 26, 2020
"Another great multi peak hike in the San Gabriels. Today from Icehouse Canyon Trailhead to Icehouse Saddle and then on to Cucamonga Peak. From Cucamonga Peak back to Cucamonga Saddle and then up the steep 1/2 mile climb to Bighorn and then across the ridgeline to Ontario Peak. Took the Ontario Peak Trail through Kelly Camp back down to Icehouse Saddle. Then back down Icehouse Canyon to the trailhead. I seem to be missing a ton of photos from several hikes during this time, but I'll find them. " — Philip-Yoho • Sep 28, 2019
"Perfect day to do 5 peaks. Etiwanda, Cucamonga, Bighorn, Ontario and Sugarloaf. Better known as ECBOS. What a great and challenging loop this was. Started out early at Icehouse Canyon and headed straight to Icehouse Saddle and then to Etiwanda Peak. From Etiwanda it was a short traverse off trail along the ridge to Cucamonga Peak. From Cucamonga Peak I followed the trail down to Cucamonga Saddle and then up a trace trail about a half mile and 700 feet in gain to Bighorn. From Bighorn it was a simple following of the ridgeline to Ontario Peak and then down from Ontario to a point between Cherry Canyon (left and Falling Rock Canyon (right), I followed that spur down to a saddle and then up to Sugarloaf Peak. From Sugarloaf, it was a half mile back down to the saddle and then the big descent down Falling Rock Canyon. It was my first descent down Falling Rock Canyon and it didn't disappoint. Tough, steep, but a fun descent down scree fields and some class 3 bouldering." — Philip-Yoho • May 25, 2019
"I scouted this peak and Ontario peak today before leading SC 20s & 30s group up here next week. Sadly, the peak didn't live up to its name (no bighorn sheep), and route finding was a touch tricky, but the scouting trip went well!" — ctrain2018 • Sep 22, 2018
"WOW - I liked this hike much better than Mt. Baldy. Once you pass Icehouse Saddle, there are no crowds (I saw 2 people on a weekend). I actually saw more bighorn sheep on this hike (4)!
I have all the hike details and turn by turn directions on my blog here: http://bit.ly/1IaAuuc" — HikingGuy • Aug 22, 2015
"Took Ice House Canyon. Trail was very crowded until the Ice House Saddle because of the holiday, but I only saw one other person past that at Camp Kelly. Summited Big Horn and Ontario Peaks the same day after an overnighter between them. " — joshderhammer • Dec 26, 2014
