"A truly 'Wicked Wild' day. Rain the night before with temperatures in the mid 30's and high wind warnings made for a very raw day. Trail covered with down wet leaves made every step an adventure. Hit perlite snow squals with increased wind as I approached the summit. No views. Heard trees crashing in the forest on the descent! Exospikes all day..." — goshen-bagger • Nov 4, 2025
"Construction of a large microwave relay station is in progress. Much of the woods around the station was burned. There are 9 or so large racks of solar cell panels and 5, 300lb propane tanks around the radio equipment building. So much for the old fire tower that use to dominate the peak." — ribo • Jul 25, 2013
"Great day for a hike a balmy19 degrees, no bugs, no mud, and no crowds. First 1.2 miles is easy climb up an old road to where the fire wardens cabin used to stand. They next .8 miles was a tough steep up hill climb. There are several ladders in the steepest parts that where difficult to get through with my 2 dogs but with some coaxing and tugging and pulling we made it safely up and back.
The top offers excellent view of Mt.Katahdin, but is currently littered with stuff left behind after a construction crew was forced to leave in a hurry because of a fire. I feel that the best days of visiting Big Spencer have passed, the fire tower is now gone and the top is covered with towers. " — mary.wright.35977 • Nov 29, 2012
