"Amazing summit packed with views. If you walk to the back of Big Crow and start descending towards Little Crow, you will get an even better view. Great workout, in about 1h15minutes top. " — LadySaturnia • Sep 1, 2024
"Headed out of Tupper Lake to get Loon Lake in the 3-season hoping to find parking despite my casually late departure. Surprisingly the lot was empty. Nice easy hike to some broad views that i didn’t get in the winter due to low clouds. Also found the 3 benchmarks that were hidden under the snow. Next up was to be Jenkins mountain out of the Paul Smiths VIC but I arrived too late to get the hike in before they close. The VIC itself looked poorly maintained outside almost deserted looking short of the most geriatric crowd wandering around. Plan B became Big Crow for the LP-9 challenge. All the way down to Keene for the short hike out and back to Big Crow and it’s little brother since it was right there. First though I had to wait for some returning hikers to leave so I could poach their spot. Another fine Fall day of sun, clouds, colors and no wetness from the sky. Big Crow gets hammered more times with the Little one as the trail conditions change dramatically as you beyond Big Crow. A lot of “Cat scratches” on the exposed rock on either side of Big Crow." — Nimblefoot • Oct 4, 2022

"Tom, Black and I left the trailhead at 8:15 am with blue skies @ 10 degrees. Summited Crow in 45 minutes. Half way up we quickly realized the micros were a bad choice in the couple inches of fresh snow. We wasted a considerable amount of energy slipping while the snowshoes kept my car company. Great views from the summit. Short but steep hike. 45 minutes up and 35 down. Off to Mount Jo." — garyogden • Mar 7, 2021
"Hiked up Big Crow from the road. Great views on Little Crow. Then down the other side and up Hurricane. Superb views from there. I doubled back down the trail to the parking lot, then roadwalked down to my car. First hike of the day. Onwards to Baxter next. " — newenglandwarrior • Sep 20, 2020

"Solo. Got to the end of the seasonally plowed section of O’Toole Road around 0900, noting the ABSOLUTELY no parking in the snowplow turnaround, and carefully tucked my car into the snow bank where they stop plowing. I was the only one there. Overcast skies and temperatures in the mid 30’s.
Walked the .5 or so remaining of the road to the trailhead proper wearing my snowshoes even though the whole width of it was bare booted to all hell. The snow was too greasy for spikes and too soft for me personally to bare boot as it gives me calf pain.
I signed in and start up the trail to Big Crow, again noting that at this point no one before me had been on snowshoes. No biggie since most of it was soft snow and it will also snow this weekend. A couple of solid ice patches. The trail was nice and the last push to the summit was a good climb. I wandered around the summit taking photos and taking note of some fresh snowshoe hare tracks, then headed off the summit in the direction of Little Crow which I could see clearly way, way below me.
The initial descent off Big was sketchy with bare rock and huge post hole footprints from a previous hiker. It’s quite a steep descent but is over..." — kellieirene • Jan 24, 2020

"The weather - outstanding, the mountains - beautiful in a dusting of snow but, as always its the company that makes the hike - laughs, smiles and lots of goofing off - a fabulous day working on the LP 9." — deb-and-rob • Jan 5, 2019

"This is what I wrote on facebook that day:
I took a “short” hike today to Big Crow and Little Crow peaks near Keene. The view was gorgeous with many of the high peaks visible from the top ( apparently 28 of the 46 peaks including Giant, Cascade, and Porter). I had a little trouble with the trail and ended up doubling back, so did a total of over 3 miles and over 1000 ft elevation. Good intro to bigger hikes in the future!

"Was to be a hot day so we got out early to the trail head! We went up Weston via Lost Pond trail to the herd path the would get us to Nun-Da-Go ridge and Big Crow trail head! The sun was strong but plenty of shade on this trip, plus a great breeze on the ridge throughout the entire hike. We made good time, got to the Big Crow trail head and took that 2/10 mile trek up to the summit of Big Crow as well!" — hbotc • Jun 30, 2018

"Was going to summit Hurricane fire tower but was unable due to impassable brook conditions. Big crow has some great views and it's a quick steep climb with no snowshoes or micro spikes. Little to no wind with fun sun out and no clouds." — amandagomez • Apr 14, 2017

"Technically, yes, we summited twice in 1 day !!! We came up Big Crow, went down to Little Crow, then Back over Big Crow to continue along the Soda Range. It made for a tough day on the ridge, so I am claiming a second summit." — HikingViking • Nov 12, 2016
