"Leave early to avoid the crowds. We started the hike at 7:45am. Saw 2 people while hiking up. On the hike down, we saw 173 people. Last 1/2 mile or so is steep! Beautiful views of the lake." — mattjohnson • Aug 29, 2020
"It was a cool, clear fall weekend in the Big Bear Area. The trail was crowded and I was dodging large groups on the way up, but the lake views were excellent. And it's always nice to hike a section of the PCT, even if it is only a half mile. Hiked Little Bear, Grays, and Delmar that day as well." — klotito • Oct 1, 2016
"Popular, moderate hike up Cougar Crest Trail to Pacific Crest Trail, then to steep use trail to summit. Very busy for February, but the weather was much warmer than normal for time of year, and very little snow since much of the hike is on a south-facing slope. That being said, there is much more aridity-tolerant trees and shrubs along the route such as Mountain Ephedra (Ephedra viridis), Singleleaf Pinyon (Pinus monophylla), Sierra Juniper (Juniperus grandis- some huge old specimens too), Short-Joint Beavertail Cactus (Opuntia basilaris var. brachyclada), and Mountain Mahogany (Cercocarpus ledifolius), among many more. Scenery is top-notch over Big Bear and the San Gorgonio High Country. A delightful hike for sure. Elevation gain roughly 1,400' (6,800'-8,201')." — brianpowell • Feb 7, 2015
"This peak has excellent views of Big Bear lake and Holcomb valley. There are radio towers on top so its not the most peaceful place, but the view is definitely worth the short climb." — DerekJayRichardson • Jan 20, 2014
