"The Lion’s Mound (Dutch: Leeuw van Waterloo) is a large artificial hill located in Braine-l’Alleud, Belgium. It was constructed between 1820 and 1826 by order of King William I of the Netherlands to commemorate the spot where his son, Prince William of Orange, was wounded during the Battle of Waterloo on June 18, 18151. The mound is topped with a cast iron lion statue, symbolizing courage and victory" — belgianIbex • Oct 16, 2024
