"I started this hike at 9 AM with my future cousins and in-laws. I hiked up the street and then made it to the dirt section. After a while of hiking I reached a small hill and the Pirate Pole. After the Pirate Pole, I went up the steep hill at Peak 620 ft. Peak 620 ft has the second best views of the hike and the summit benchmark. After a little bit of time on the summit of Peak 620 ft, I descended down into the saddle between Peak 620 ft and Rock Art Peak. After a little bit more climbing and a slightly flat section I reached the summit of Rock Art Peak. It just had some views, which is obscured by bushes. After a descent into a saddle with a little bit of green grass, I started climbing Bauer Benchmark. After a bit of ascent up Bauer Benchmark, I reached the summit. The summit has an actual benchmark that was very hard to read, but has the best views of the hike. After a break on the summit because Sophia, Thoung, Heather, and the other kid made us take a even longer break on the top. After a descent with great views, the trail turns steep. After a flat area with overgrowth, it becomes steep and then has a steep climb up to Cannon St. After turning right onto the bike trail on Can..." — lc444 • Sep 26, 2023

"My 3rd time here (2nd time logging it on Peakery, however), was up the steep trail from Patria Court. I enjoyed the summit on this cool day, then went along the ridge down and then up and over Points 720+ and 620+ down the steep trail behind Point 620 and along the south perimeter of the park to Cannon Street, closed the loop back to Patria Court along Cannon Street. This was my second short hike of the day after a short 2 mile loop at Santiago Oaks/Weir Canyon Regional Park to a very random peak there with the Springs Benchmark atop it earlier." — brianpowell • Mar 6, 2022

"My hike with Lam was a very fun one. It was my 10th time here. The peaks weren't more different when I last visited this place about 4 years ago. Bauer Benchmark was a new peak for me." — lcnguyen • Feb 1, 2022

"Made it short and simple today. Went to El Modena Open Space to revisit Bauer Benchmark and to visit Peak 800 for the first time. Formed a loop hike and made a short trip across the street to include Peak 800." — MikeTeeples • Jan 22, 2022

"Bauer BM is a mellow, short, and easy hike (but steep at times) with lovely views and vibrant green (in the rainy season, of course). The variety of cactus and succulent plant life is awesome for such a small area! I hiked up from Cannon Street, having parked on Stillwater to the SE of the park. I climbed the ridge from the wide path that wrapped around to the SW side and climbed to the crest, heading north over 2 false summits, to the 3rd summit. The BM is on the summit plateau on its north right before it starts going downhill. The area is open, and the BM is easy to find, as well as one of its reference markers. I tried making a loop on my return by taking a use trail switchbacking and minor bushwhacking through tall mustard plants to the west down towards the middle school at the bottom, but it was a dead end, so I climbed back and resumed going back to where I started. Oh well, it made for a short adventure and a little more exercise (and extra 300' elevation gain), and I felt it was worth it! I am glad I beat the rain this day for a nice sunny hike!" — brianpowell • Feb 17, 2019

"With all of the recent rains/storms/floods, I needed to get a quick hike in at the first sign of sunshine. I parked near the trailhead at the corner of Cannon and E Patria Ct (street parking only). It's only about 4 tenths of a mile to the top, but it's relatively steep most of the way. And with the heavy rains the previous 2 days, a lot of the trail was pretty washed out and still muddy, and even running water in some spots. But post storm, the views are extremely clear for long distances; downtown Los Angeles was even visible. Then back the way I came, trying not to slide down in the mud in some spots." — marc • Feb 16, 2019

"Bauer Benchmark was a quick and easy peak climb in the Villa Park area. True to its name, there is a benchmark on top that says "Bauer" (at least I went to the right place). Out and back and with a little wandering on the summit comes to around 1 mile round trip." — MikeTeeples • Sep 22, 2018

"1 mile r/t with ~400' elevation gain from Cannon Street @ E.Patria road. The El Modena Open Space has maintained trails, varied terrain (rock and dirt, low chaparal), steep in places, makes for a good neighborhood hill walk. There are 2 reservoirs visible from the benchmark area to the NW." — BradStemm • Jul 1, 2018
