Tough hike. Started at plaque. Lots of overgrown areas requiring a machete:) Natural bridge formation near top. Historical note, was called "N*gger Mtn" then euphemized to "Negrohead Mtn" by USGS, then changed to "Ballard Mtn" due to research by a Moorpark College professor who identified that it was an old, racial epithet. John Ballard was a free slave from Kentucky who settled the area over 100 years ago.
