"Completed the Maple Springs Loop and its peaks. There was a mountain bikers event today, so the mountain bikers were all over the loop. I certainly stood out as the only hiker." — MikeTeeples • Apr 15, 2023
"A long one today. Started at the Maple Springs trailhead in Silverado Canyon. The first 7 miles were an easy grade up the road, the first 3 miles of which were paved. First stop was Maple Springs point, which was a couple hundred feet of bush-whacking to get to the actual peak. Next up, Peak 4380. Fortunately, a fire break was created probably last year which provided a way up off of Main Divide without the bush-whacking. This was right next to the big Holy Jim fire area from last fall. 3rd on the loop was Peak 4260, another fire break path off the road. Shortly after was Peak 4120, followed by Bald Peak. All involved fire break scrambles off the road; the path up to Bald Peak was pretty steep in loose gravel making both the ascent and decent 'interesting'. Peak 3820 was next (same fire break scramble), followed by Peak 3840. This one was just a steep path that was part bushwacking. Bedford Peak was the final peak. Then the final few miles down a steep single path that was mostly loose gravel making it hard on feet and hiking shoes alike! 18 miles, 8 peaks. Like I said, a long one today. Throughout all of this, great views all the way around!" — marc • Apr 14, 2019
"I started out at about 5:45am in blackness and drizzle with an ambitious plan to go up the Silverado Trail at the Maple Springs TH and hike to possibly Santiago Peak and descend Maple Springs Truck Trail, about a 23 mi r/t expedition. This time, I decided to hit many of the peaks along Main Divide, pretty much all of which have firebreaks branching off the road to reach their summits! Bedford is the second summit after joining Main Divide, and I hit both. I then continued southeast along Main Divide under foggy, drizzly, showery skies, and hit the next 2 firebreak summits, the second of which is Peak 3840. I then continued more south, but missed the firebreak for Peak 3820, which I failed to realize, is immediately northwest of the junction of Main Divide and Bedford Motorway (oh, well, next time!!) I kept southeast along Main Divide under the transmission lines that cross the mountains and soon I was on Bald Peak. The sun busted through a couple of times, but then retreated. Soon, I continued southeast, and the very next summit was Peak 4120. The north side was way too muddy, so I went up the much easier south side firebreak. I did the exact same on Peak 4260, which was t..." — brianpowell • Feb 10, 2019
"At about 7 miles into my loop hike, I summited Bald Peak. I didn't hang around long or take pictures because it was obvious to me that the next mountain over is higher (about a mile away). I have no idea of the name of the peak, but I climbed it also. On top was a peak register with a nearly pristine writing pad in the can. No peak name is written on the writing pad." — MikeTeeples • Feb 19, 2018
"A great workout hike with scenery, from Silverado Motorway Switchbacks to Main Divide, over Bedford Peak, and then to this lovely summit. You know you are close (when approaching from the north as I did), when you see powerlines barely crest over the Main Divide. Bald Peak (3,947') is the next peak just to the left of Main Divide. It is not the highest peak in the vicinity, for the next bump is a little over 4,100' elevation, but I do not know if it has a name. Unfortunately, my camera was not working this week, so I borrowed a buddy's cell phone to take photos and am still waiting for him to e-mail me them so I can post them later on here. This is my second peak of three this day (Modjeska being the third)." — brianpowell • Dec 3, 2016
"went up with a couple friends on a warm day. This was peak #20 of my 100 in 2014 Goal. There was a legitimate geo-cache on the peak. Had a beer up there, signed the register and found my signature from my 1st ascent 3 years prior. There was a swallowtail butterfly on the summit as there is on over 50% of all the SoCal summits I've hit." — 1-with-Nature • Mar 30, 2014
"3.5miles 1-way w/950' gain from Bedford Peak(3,800') along Main Divide Road and short peak trail. 2nd of a 14 mile 2-peak hike to Bedford and Bald peaks (traverse had 3,950' gain), from TH on Silverado Cyn Road at Maple Srings Road (TH:1900') in Silverado Canyon." — BradStemm • Oct 10, 2012
"Hiked up the Bedford motorway on a cloudy day looking to hit Bedford Peak. I couldn't find any marker for the summit and wasn't sure whether or not I was on it, (turns out I was) but I had no idea that day so we continued on the Main Divide road toward Bald Peak." — 1-with-Nature • Mar 17, 2011
