"Great hike on what was probably the last 80 degree day we're getting this year. Leaves had already fallen quite a bit. Colors are muted this year because of the drought. Still beautiful, but not as exciting as it could be. The hike itself is mostly easy. I took the long way from the boat launch parking area. The trail up is flat or gradual until probably the last 1/3. From there is a series of stairs followed by rock slabs and boulders. My dog struggled a bit in this area. I found this section a lot more fun and interesting. Once you're up top you get a fantastic tower viewpoint with 360 degree views. It's awesome up there. " — mikewilliamsjr • Oct 7, 2025
"Molly and I headed up from Kittery the day before for the eclipse. We slept in the car in the parking lot for Bald Mtn. We headed up around 10am and arrived at the summit around 11:00. The observation platform already had about 10 people there and a bunch of other people on the ground. The platform was also smaller than I recall it being. We claimed a spot and stayed there for 5 hours. Totality as around 3:30 for the eclipse. Everything turned dark, much like before sunrise. It was an amazing experience. There were about 100 people on Bald Mtn by then. We headed down the mountain soon after totality was over, being stuck in a conga line of 20-30 people deep. The snow was soft mashed potatoes and our microspikes helped. We then had the long drive home. From Oquossic to the Height of Land, it took us 1 hour, 5 minutes to drive 11 miles. Beautiful sunny day. Some wind on the tower made things brisk but we were well bundled up. " — newenglandwarrior • Apr 8, 2024
"A quick hike up with Nick to check this mountain out. Cloudy, so we could only see the lakes on either side of us but not the mountains. This mountain will make an excellent future sunset hike." — newenglandwarrior • Jul 17, 2016
"Warm and hazy day for a climb. Last 2/10 of a mile was tough but it was very satisfying to get to the top. Views somewhat limited by haze but still able to see Rangeley Lake and Mooselookmeguntic Lake. " — Badgerinmaine • Jul 20, 2011
