"Dave Warren and I climbed up on to the Bald Hill Range from the Totara Valley and then headed along the range to the summit of Bald Hill. We had frosty, fine and clear weather thus had great views. " — glennj • Aug 4, 2021

"Started at the Bald hill carpark at 1550hrs and camped near the tapped water source in the tops before bald hill. On the second day we traveled along the tops to Fraser peak and dropped down the track to explorer hut and walked out to the totara road end on the third day. Awesome walk with really well maintained tracks and hut. Was good to see kaka and plenty of kea and rifleman around." — samspeight • Dec 31, 2020

"Walked up from the Totara Valley to the trig. Did a little track maintenance on the bush section whilst travelling each way. Spooked two red deer in the bush, saw 20 or so powelliphanta snail shells and heard kea (mountain parrots) along the way. Nice wx. Didn't see any other people out there." — glennj • Sep 8, 2020

"Two of us came in from the Totara River doing track cutting on the way. Beyond Bald Hill we went to Point 1128m to get a view of the route to Fraser Peak. We saw 3 deer for the day, some kaka (bush parrots) and shells from the not common local species of powelliphanta snail." — glennj • Jan 28, 2017

"Walked up and back from the Totara Valley. Took my dog for company. Nice wx. There had been a bit of wind damage in the high bush area since my last visit making walking a bit of an obstacle course in places avoiding fallen branches and whole trees. The triangulation beacon on the summit had been wind damaged since my last visit." — glennj • Sep 15, 2016

"Walked from the Totara Valley road up through the bush to access the tussock at the northern end of the range. Traversed south to the top of Bald Hill then dropped over the side and headed back to the vehicle.
The tussock tops of the Bald Hill Range are easy going but there are no cut and marked tracks through the heavy bush & scrub to get up there.
My dog Elle came along for the walk." — glennj • Jun 27, 2013
