"8/3/24: From Pacific Tarn we regained the ridge at the saddle and made our way up the north ridge, on and off a faint social trail, sometime veering on the leeward side as a storm was threatening and then half way up got hit by some graupel until we made the summit. Fierce winds and lightning south of us chased us off the summit and hastened our long descent down Atlantic’s rocky west ridge. Even though the views were amazing and constant down Mayflower Gulch, back up to the Mayflower Power Towers, and over to Pacific, this turned into a slow downward slog pretty quick as we negotiated persistent talus and Jackson started to hit the wall. Only one major stumble and we finally made it off the ridge and back down into the Pacific drainage. We were rewarded with a veritable Garden of Eden of chest high wildflowers that choked the rocky falls and rushing creek. Here we easily picked up the trail that led us back into Mayflower Gulch and across the wet and muddy willow thicket to the Jeep road and back to the Taco. That concluded perhaps the most unique, intimidating, and rewarding day in the mountains for either of us.

"Finally bagged Crystal after 2 previous attempts. Repeated Pacific and Atlantic for fun. Surprisingly Atlantic's west ridge was holding snow real well and posed the most dangerous part of the day: https://youtu.be/bDvOmzd3J5Q
River running high. Crossed at the dam near the trailhead so I can't speak for the gulch crossing but it's probably pretty wet. Avoided willow bashing on the way up Mayflower Hill but managed to hit every one on the way down." — cheeseishappiness • Jun 16, 2024
