"Nora, Aracellys, Jeff, Kali, Brooklyn and I hiked up in the late afternoon after doing Iron Mountain. It took about the same amount of time up as down and we came down in the almost dark dusk. Drove back home in the dark.
It was a cloudy afternoon, but the views were still nice. Such a beautiful hike always.
.9 miles each way.

"Nora, Kali, Brooklyn and I hiked this lovely little mountain on a chilly, sunny day. It is a very easy hike of only about a mile up and a mile back on the same trail.
There were a lot of people and other dogs, as it was on the weekend, but it was still really enjoyable. We started to go on to East Rattlesnake Mountain, but met someone on the way who said it was mostly treed in and not really worth the hike, so we decided to forego it on this trip and catch it another time.
Great little hike for beginners or anyone who can't do a more difficult hike.
The views of the Lakes region are awesome for such a mild hike. Well worth the drive down." — Hufflepuff • Oct 25, 2020
"Very windy today but thought I'd head farther north to still get in a good snowshoe hike. There is still 18" of snow in the woods but there is a solidly packed monorail all the way to the summit. In spite of that I used snowshoes to spare the trail postholes that would come as it warmed up today. Beautiful views of Squam lake and the Belknap Mountains to the south." — rjnick • Mar 16, 2019
"My pup and I explored some of the lesser visited trails around the Rattlesnakes, going down the Col Trail to the Five Finger Point. We took the (steep) Pasture Trail up to the summit of West Rattlesnake and then went down the Ridge Trail to change up the return trip to our car." — HikeLikeMike • Sep 30, 2017
"It was a Beautiful day for a hike... lots of dragon flies on the top and wonderful views. This was a very easy hike up, and it being the first hike of the season for me, I was looking for an easy one. Once on top, I started to hike down Pasture Trail to Five finger point (loop around lake area), but this was a much steeper trail, and the leaves on the less traveled trail were slippery. Next time I will wear my better hikers, so I don't get half way down only to turn around again. " — alimary • Jun 22, 2017
"Bugs, bugs, BUGS! My goodness the little guys were incessant today. I'm sure I have a few bites I'll be itching through the week. Other than that, the view was wonderful as usual." — HikeLikeMike • May 21, 2017
"Decided to break in the new jacket and microspikes with a hike of the Rattlesnakes. Hit West first via the Old Bridle Path. The trail was well packed and made for easy footing with the spikes. As always, the view at the top was beautiful." — HikeLikeMike • Jan 8, 2017
"It was a wonderful to take this quick hike for an amazing view of Squam Lake. The Old Bridle Path is a super easy, great "intro to hiking" trail that pays off in a big way. I think my wife, dog, and I spent more time enjoying the summit than we did actual hiking time!" — HikeLikeMike • Aug 21, 2016
"Arrived at 7:30 a.m. and was the first car in the lot. Trails were dry and empty. Beautiful views of Squam Lake from the summit of West Rattlesnake, and then headed down the ridge trail to summit East Rattlesnake. Descended the East Rattlesnake Trail to Pinehust road and returned to Parking. Lots of gnats at the lower elevations." — rjnick • Apr 30, 2016
"28APR2013: Hiked West & East Rattlesnakes and Five-Finger-Point on this gorgeous Sunday! It was one of those RARE Sundays when you have the WHOLE day off, and absolutely nowhere else to be. We made the 1.5hour jaunt to Holderness via motorcycle as the weather was so pleasant (My first ride of the season). Round trip this hike was roughly 7.5 miles in its entirety. It took us ~7 hours to complete-- not due to difficulty, though, more so the complete distraction that is the beauty of Holderness & Center Sandwich, NH! West Rattlesnake (1,260 ft) especially offers a VERY large reward for such little effort-- it can be reached in less than 1 mile of hiking, and offers breath taking views of Squam Lake (The location for the 1981 film On Golden Pond). We were tempted to cut the hike short and instead picnic/ bask upon the warm rock outcropping for the day *laughs* As much as that would have been fun, I am glad we didn't. Five Finger Point was a Gem-not-to-be-missed. Though, I may never choose to take the Pasture Trail again. It was an arduously steep trail that descended for quite a while w/o many switchbacks to rest your neck & feet (I actually got blisters from walking it). Five Finger ..." — CiccheMariti • Apr 28, 2013
