"My second visit to the Toroweap/Tuweep area, but my first time actually making it to Vulcan's Throne and to Toroweap Overlook! Beautiful day, a little bit of wind and a bit chilly, but such a bright, sunshine-filled morning. Straightforward hike; we parked at a pull-out and walked across the raised berm that keeps the dry lakebed a, well, retaining lake if/when it rains. From there, we picked our way up next to the wash that led to the saddle near the peak. It's steep. Very, very steep. No other issues beyond being steep, though! Great views of the canyon from the top, and a really fantastic summit register dating back to 2008. Saw some names in the register that I recognize from Peakery, which is always neat! I wandered down to the edge a bit farther to look down a bit better at the canyon and over at Toroweap Overlook, which we hadn't yet visited. We went down mostly the same route that we came up, with a little bit of wobbling around to keep our footing. Very straightforward, no challenges beyond the sheer cardio of how steep the slope was and the loose rock/small scree that you could slide down (or up!). Didn't see any mule deer, unfortunately. "Tried from the east out of the campground but got cliffed out on the approach. Tried from the north on the drive out, car to summit in 30 minutes. Complete TR: https://themtsarecalling.com/vulcans/" — Christopher • May 28, 2018
"Drove up from Vegas to camp at Toroweap. We drove down the road to the Lava Falls Trailhead & debated hiking down to the bottom, but it was so warm already in the day, we didn't want that long trudge back up, so we decided to hike up here instead, to check out the views from the summit. We pretty much went straight up the mountain from the end of the road. It was steep, loose & hot out, but those summit views...WOW! Love, love, loved it!" — Kevin • May 12, 2013
