"When I was looking for the highest point of Wisconsin's Brown County, I first thought it was this location. A visual and closer inspection of the area next to the roadside communication tower shows that the mound of earth between the tower and the residence next door, on the south side of Scray Hill Rd (in the sliver of the town of Glenmore closer to the quarry) is higher than any area on the north side, in Ledgeview. The south area matches the location shown on Lists of John and Peakbagger. It could be however, that between the construction of numerous house lots and the quarry activity in the area, the landscape has been so altered, that it is impossible to accurately locate the original highest part of Scray Hill anymore. Incidentally I found out that the high point of Brown County is actually located on Morrison Hill, in an area of farms a few miles south of this area. I went there next." — SteveM_StickMan • Jul 22, 2023
"After visiting a couple more local area high points, I came here. This is a nice observation tower near where the Ice Age Trail goes through the northern section of the Kettle Moraine State Forest. It also happens to be the highest point of Sheboygan County, about halfway between Milwaukee and Green Bay. I did a quick out and back here, since I wanted to get further on my trip visiting scattered family members. Nice 1/4 mile trail with lots of trail-built steps and resting benches (!) for the non hikers visiting. Three levels of observation decks on the well constructed tower. There is a viewfinder with compass marks for certain geographic places in the area. The trees have grown to the point that you need to go all the way to the top to see anything now. Views were so-so since it was a breezy, hazy cloudy day." — SteveM_StickMan • Jul 22, 2023
"After checking out Scray Hill, which I initially thought was the WI's Brown Cnty. high point, I made my way to this area. Asked a couple of delivery drivers for help, finally approaching one of the homes near the intersection of Blake and Park Roads. Turned out to be the right one. Had a nice time conversing with the wife and then found Mr. Peterson, who had been working in the yard. We shared some stories for a while, then he even walked with me through the yard and abandoned pipeline path up to the high point area as well! We found the USGS marker next to the stake. I shared what the markings meant and he showed me the viewpoint of the countryside to the southeast. After returning and chatting some more I appreciatively gave him one of my local NH items as thanks. We should do that more often!! What a nice couple to accommodate our quests!" — SteveM_StickMan • Jul 22, 2023
"A late trip over to this Polk County High Point tower after reading others' trip reports. Gate was closed but it was a short hike to the summit area, which was highly overgrown. I started to climb up the tower ladder but after about 25' I realized that my strength, at 69 yo, wasn't sufficient to continue. Got back to the car just as darkness was settling in. Picked ticks off me for the next 12 hrs." — SteveM_StickMan • Jul 12, 2023
"After spending the night near Duluth, I had hoped to go up this 2nd highest of 4 Pikes Peaks (!) in WI, since the highest one is on an Army Base. But the mosquitoes were so bad when I got out of the car that a 1 mile whack was deemed too much to bear. At least I found a suitable pkg. spot for a future trip to this area.
From here, it was a 90 min. drive to the High Point of Douglas County, called the Summit Lookout Tower. A mile and a half drive off Rt. 35 on Summit Tower Fire Lane led me to a pull-off near the trail's start. I followed the fairly well worn whack path from the fire road. It was a short 10 min. walk through tall grass and tree branches to the old tower summit area. The 4 tower footings (from 1932) and the 1934 USGS summit benchmark are still clearly visible among the larger growth. Then it was on to the Polk County high point, the Frederic Lookout Tower, being on my way toward Green Bay." — SteveM_StickMan • Jul 12, 2023
