- The 5 peaks over 4,000 ft all lie in the Green Mountains. The highest is Mt. Mansfield, home of ski area Stowe.
- The rugged, 272-mile long Long Trail crests the spine of the Green Mountains from Massachusetts to Canada, traversing the summit of over 50 peaks along the way.
- The lower-elevation Taconic Mountains lie in the southwest corner of the state, extending up from Massachusetts.

"Hiked up on Hedgehog Brook Trail to the Long Trail to watch the eclipse from the summit. More snow on the trail than I expected made for a very slow ascent. Clear views from the exposed granite on top and a very thin overcast up above for great eclipse viewing." — JASTA11 • Apr 8, 2024
"Well, they closed the Castle Rock lift, so I had to hike. Skied back to the base of Heavens Gate for round 2. Took the "easy" route down as the snow hadn't quite softened up yet. " — wazoheat • Mar 31, 2024

"Hiking Castle Rock round 2. Decided to take a more serious route this time, skied some pretty sketchy terrain down Liftline (lots of rocks). The snow was finally starting to soften up on the sunlit side of the trail so it was manageable at least. Knee started to hurt pretty bad by the time I got to the bottom. Totally worth it." — wazoheat • Mar 31, 2024
