"3.34.2021~Solo, Sunrise Mtn/AFB, 9 Peak Extravaganza (CCW Loop). 10.25 miles, 4,500’ gain in 6:55hrs. The Minefield, The Triple, The Double, Coyote Skull, Sunrise Mtn. North Summit, Sunrise Mtn., 2,960’, Unity & Division Peaks. Gosh, that was an a$$ kicker. Trekking on carnivorous limestone for that many hours was punishing. My feet are pulverized. It was warm but with cool breezes but some sections in the valley were hot. The wind diminished in the afternoon, so I eventually had to ration my 1.5 liters of water. Stunning area! " I had skipped this one last time I was in the area because, frankly, it's a short walk up a little hill. But, it was perfect for today & getting back into the swing of things. It was heaven! So great to be back in the flowers & hills & the breeze was so wonderful. So grateful to have things like this so near my house where I can escape crowds & continue to hike without seeing others during these crazy times." — StudioHoodoo • Apr 16, 2020
"The weather forecast had a high chance of rain in the afternoon, so Dylan & I started early with the hope of being able to complete a short 4-peak loop before it got bad. We parked off of Lake Mead Rd and took a dirt road to the base of The Minefield, which we ascended via the SW Slope. From there, we descended the North Face back down, then ascended The Triple via a bit South of the East Ridge. We descended the East Ridge, then went up the West Ridge of The Double. There was a strange circle on the hillside north of The Double, so we took the North Slope down to check it out, then made our way across the desert gullies to the base of Coyote Skull Peak, which we gained via the East Ridge. We descended the same way and made our way back to the dirt road to complete the loop. Weather held up pretty well until our descent of Coyote Skull Peak, where we finally had to deal with some pretty strong wind gusts. No rain until we were in the car driving back to the city.
